It has to be either a DNS or a gateway issue. Someone with a little network experience needs to troubleshoot the problem. It may be that you need to have a local DNS server to cache the records. Whatever the problem, it should be accessible through the undocumented Prefs->Network->View Log->(click in text box and type info and press enter) (or ? for a command list)

I looked at both of these cards today, and they are physically quite similar. Makes me wonder if they aren't really the same piece of hardware, and if this is the case, a driver should be easy.

I'd love to get the 256mb SanDisk working on my 650!

Considering the Palm wifi card barely works (i.e. it seems that it works for some and then it's limited in a number of ways -- see previous 65 pages of the thread), there's about zero likelihood of a non-supported card working. Step one is getting the SD card that the drivers were developed for to work with the Treo. Getting the drivers to work on card they weren't written for and for a device they weren't written for is pushing your luck unless you happen to run across source code of everything.

i intented install the driver wifi 650.prc on my treo 650 version 1.06-row (25-jul-2005) and the messsage was that drivers on my treo are newer than the install program.

finally it dont work i had to be a hard reset .

can you review this version ?

I currently have no clue why they are there, or if they are different from what we already have.

But I intend to research them and compare them... It'll just be a little hard since I have to extract the data byte by byte. I found it while continuing my search for the unlock code or it's pre-cursors.

I hope bringing this thread up doesn't stir some false hope... but I got to thinking, can we somehow use the wifi drivers from the LifeDrive?

    Hi guys.

1: In UneasySilence, Shadowmite posted drivers for Tungsten E (12/19/2004) searched this thread and his site but couldnt find anny reference to T|E. Went ahead with it though and after installation (progress bar full) I get the error message INCOMPATIBLE DEVICE - This device is incompatible with this software.

Any ideas/solutions on this? Is it possible that Shadowmite (might have accidentally) made a typo? I hope not.

2: I tried the hack with the T600 and ..

Downloaded the driver from UneasySilence. Followed the instructions. It installed successfully and got the reset notification screen. Tapped on OK. Device resets and HANGS/FREEZES on grey Palm Powered screen.

tried..removing the WiFi card before tapping OK/resetting with PIN. same result.

soft and system resets are NO GOOD. I can only get out of it with hard reset.

    Any ideas and/or solutions?

    ---------------
Posted this question on Shadowmite's site since he is currently online (as of this post) but no replies yet. Maybe some of you could shed some light on this matter. Thanks

Shadowmite has talked about "someone" possibly finding and changing all references to the device model on the Treo 650 (or maybe in the driver?), but no one has come forward to do it.

Re-programming the drivers to allow the Treo 650 would probably do it, but, of course, that is probably mucking about with PalmOne's proprietary code.

    Thanks for the reply.

Hhmm. POS Programming isnt my strength though. But I could perhaps assist since I have several models at my disposal.

If i remember this right....the problem is in the network stack that handles network connections.....and there isn't a palm stack out now that handles wi-fi & carrier data at the same time.....
find one and that piece is what we are needing....he got the drivers working....if you gave up your carrier's data connection....one or the other...

hence we will have to wait for cobalt to have any hope probably

I'm a bit confused as to the need for a hard-reset when switching back to Vision. Looking at this thread:

    http://discuss.treocentral.com/showt...f+bluetooth+PC

From this one, it is possible to use the Bluetooth connection for the IP services. I set it up and can switch back and forth from BT to Vision by selecting my connection under Prefs->Connection. Does the Wifi service show up here too?

    Cheers

I have been following this thread somewhat....but did not have the time to read all 65 pages of it. From what I understand Shadowmite has successfully hacked a Treo card to allow WiFi access on the Sprint network. However, I also understand that you lose your Vision access when you use this hack. Is this correct? Or has something changed?

    Many thanks!

As far as I know that is where it stands, Although I think there is someone trying out some new ideas.
    PalmIII > PalmIIIx > PalmIIIxe > TRGPro > Handera 330 > Zire71 > Treo600 > Treo650 > Treo680 > Treo750 > Centro > TreoPro > iPhone 32GB 3GS

So, will it work on cingular/gsm phones? I'd love to be able to use free access points!

Can we start offering a bounty on this? Seemed to work well for the FAT32 hack...

We could...or we could harass Palm, 'til they deliver the drivers they promised, almost two years ago.

Please feel free to add a "me too" at http://forums.palm.com/pe/action/for...ostID=20304568
