The continuous loop/reset has happened for the last time. Even with no aditional software on my 650 it can and will go into a continuous reset. I can not put up with it anymore and it sits without the battery inserted on my desk.

I will be calling Sprint for instructions on cancelling my account and returning the device. It is a real shame as I had such hopes for this device.

    Goodbye Sprint.

Greg, sorry to hear things have been so frustrating. I've had similar problems in the past with a handheld and it drove me nuts. I'm guessing you have already posted some details to see if folks can help you out. But, if not, feel free to add them to this thread. I'm glad to try and troubleshoot with you. Most of my enormous handheld disasters were solved with the help of others who were able to provide "cooler heads" when my mine was heating up

Enjoy the ETF from Sprint :-) It's P1's fault, not Sprints

Exactly! Sprint is not the one to blame. The ppc6601 has no such problem.

sorry to hear that you have had suck bad luck. everything on my 650 has worked perfectly. I have been using mine a ton for a week now and I haven't had one dropped call and have had NO loops or errors- keeping my fingers crossed that my luck continues. Good luck on the returning process

    Greg,

First night I got my 650, I had a wicked seires of reset loops. I was as frustrated as you sound. I had done a sync with my old Treo 600 profile and I could not get it to do a hard reset to start the process over. I finally found out by reading the manual I was not doing the hard reset correctly. I was holding the power/end call/red phone button while pressing the reset button. I thought I was holding the red phone button long enough as I saw the Palm round symbol appear on the phone. What I finally found out is that I did need to hold that red phone / power button for about 15 seconds after the round Palm logo appreared. This finally got my 650 to do the proper hard reset.

It may not need to be 15 seconds, but I decided to watch the clock and time how long I needed to hold it. I picked 15 seconds first. I sure was not holding it 15 seconds before. Also you must remember to look at the screen and it tells you to press the UP on the 5 way button or else you kick it back into the current software load and it does not do the hard reset.

I don't know if this would help yours, but I was almost ready to call Sprint back and send this 650 in. I could not end my contract as I have more than 1 year still left on my current contract, but I would have just shifted back to my Treo 600 instead.

I can tell you though, I am glad I tried one more time with the hard reset because I DON'T want to GIVE up this 650 for anything!

Keep trying the Hard Reset and when you get it reset, be very careful what you load until you find the app that is causing the problem.

You think you could troll a few more threads with this?

I've had my share of PPC devices. I'll pass, thank you.

I'd say the exact opposite...looks like crap but PPC is the best part (just wish the sprint version had wifi) when compared to reliability, true multi-tasking, wireless integration, etc. This is what's great about software, though....eventually bugs on OS 5.4 will be fixed, it will become stable, other hacks will improve what Palm left out and PPC didn't.

I feel the same way. Maybe it is lonely on the PPC forums.

Every unit can be setup badly. Are you claiming that PPC devices can't be screwed up by a bad setup?! I beg to differ.

I had a 6601 for two weeks and returned it to Sprint. I kept getting beeps on phone calls every 2-3 seconds. Plus the screen was very washed out looking especially compared to the screen of the 650. On the other hand I've had absolutely no problems with my 650 and could not be happier with it.

Yes!! This is a suppport MB for the 650 NOT the PPC6601. I come here looking for help with problems, not to read posts telling me I made a bad decision with my purchase.

Yes, I think he is afraid that because he was impatient and jumped ship early (and now can't return his phone) that now he must convince himself that his ppc6601 is actually better, and from what I have read around the boards, it isn't even close. I don't understand why he isn't hanging out at ppp6601Central instead of bugging us. He wasn't said anything constructive since his report on his phone, which I enjoyed, but didn't sway me from my decision. I am happy that the phone works out for you, we have read the reviewsby you and others, and read those who left and returned to treo's. Badgering us is not going to change our minds.

You have made your point, can you tone it down now?

    PPC vs. palm
    Apple vs windows
    Linux vs windows
Lets not start that discussion in every thread.
If you do it again consider yourself banned.

If you want to discuss PPC devices feel free to do so in the 'Other Handhelds, Phones, and Smartphones ' forum.

PalmOne has botched up their upgrade instructions from other Palm devices. Look at the following for the proper process:

    http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/W...tem,CASE=14403

You would need a hard-reset before doing this.

Moderators, it would be great if you posted this information prominantly so that other new upgraders don't have to get burned by this.
