    Hi all,

I've been playing around with my (new) Treo 650 and ROMTool...

Downloaded a couple of times, but not uploaded anything yet.

Suddenly I find a new icon it looks like a black circle with a
crosshair and a red bar going at 45 deg. This appears just
above the time display and only while the phone (wireless)
is on. The phone and other applications work properly.

Any descriptions/ explanations for that one? Is it ROMTool related?

    Regards,

    - mvk

PS: My web search did not yield any meaningful infomation.
I may be poor at searching...

You've turned off Location Services. The crosshair icon means Locations Services is turned on. You need to go back into the Phone menu and re-enable it, if you want it on.

Hey!, that was quick and vey helpful... thanks.

But I'm unable to exactly find where that feature is. (doesn't appear
in the phone menus). I have an unlocked Cingular phone.

Anyways, going through the OPs other posts, he has a GSM phone. The crosshair is irrelevant to him.

Thats because you must've loaded a Sprint Overlay on your phone

    Yup, kill the overlay.

And be careful with the ROM tool, it doesn't look like you're being careful about what you load in there.

Put a Sprint ROM in there and your phone will be a paperweight.

That's stupid... of me. But I'll keep learning till I go to sleep!

Am I to understand that the Cingular phone does not have
the appropriate software for enabling that feature?

Suppose I do the CNG->ROW->ENA upgrade, will the feature
    be accessible?

Thanks for the (rather appropriate and timely) warning.

That's why I just downloaded the ROM from the phone.
I plan to take it cool for a couple of more days and
understand all the issues before doing anything drastic!

    Thanks again.

No. It's a Sprint thing (and possibly Verizon)

Some hacked phone.prc files enable the feature, even on GSM phones, where it doesn't really do anything other than show the icon indicating the services are unavailable. I know I've had it come on in the past with one of the modified CNB phone overlays that I downloaded from one of these threads.

I don't have a copy of the manual .. but on the upper line (?) of the display .. next to the "bluetooth" symbol. I have a "bullseye"?

    What does this symbol mean?

    I haven't yet figured out all the bells/whistles of the 650 ..

The big sticky thread on top of the forum can help you on questions like these.

    Thanks ..

    I searched "bullseye" .. but didn't think of cross-hairs ...

You can get a PDF of the manual from the support section of the Palm site.
