I was installing Verichat and Treo Overlay from Shadowmite.com.

Suddenly when I turned On my phone, it appears one new icon on the dial pad.

(Pic is taken from the net and I sketched the icon)

If it is what I think it is...resembles crosshairs? Then I think that is the symbol letting you know that GPS locator is turned on. Meaning only that if you were to call 911 they would be able to see your location, not that you have GPS.
The only thing that separates the men from the boys...is the lessons they learn.

Yeah, it's for the GPS locator. If all you see is the black crosshairs then it's on. If you see a red slash going through it then Location Privacy is enabled and the locator is off.

How many times a week does this question get asked/answered?

Mr. Ed...you got it. It was the overlay from Shadowmite that has no known functionality on my GSM phone.

Call me ignorant, but i have no idea what the following icon is....

I have Cingular branded treo 650.

On the dialpad screen on the top line just right of center, there is a black circle with a black plus sign in it and a red slash ( / ) going through it. I can't find any documentation about what it is. Pressing the icon does nothing.

Can anyone tell me what this is and what it it for?

    Thanks

Thats the Location awareness icon. If it's slashed out, it means that your phone will not provide location data except for 911 calls. This is selectable in Phone Prefrences and is called "Enable Location Privacy."
