Yes, you can assign shortcuts to buttons. ZL does the clearing/copying back only when you start it next. So if you launch app 1 from button A then app 2 from button B without launching ZL in between, files associated with app1 will remine in memory. Once you start ZL it will do its thing and release the memory.

Hey silverado, Iím sure you have done this already, but did you use the Docs to Go utility to move everything to the sd card, that will free up about 2-3 megs more.

Their is the link for it, thanks to rudychow

I'm curious why you didn't put docs to go on your SD card?

Is anyone out there w/ a Treo 600 or more importantly, a 650 using MegaLauncher? It seems to be very similar to ZLauncher - maybe a little better, but I already purchased MegaLauncher which I've been using for a couple of years now on my aging Clie N710 (u/g to 760 ROM).

ML also handles the memory issue for applications to reside on external memory, but I'm curious to hear from those who use it, or have compared it to ZL on a Treo 650.

Sweet thread Silverado. I certainly don't consider myself a poweruser, but I'm using you setup an am very pleased with the results. I ordered the 1G SD from Newegg. This phone is so stinkin sweet. It suprises you with something new on a daily basis. Im watching StarWars Episode II on it now. Burned with PocketDVD and simply drug it to my SD Card. ZL v5 has made my life way too easy.

Kudos to Silverado... and all of the other posters.

This goes a long way in addressing memory issues, and will be most valuable to almost everyone on this board.

Great job Silverado and the others here. As I mentioned in some earlier posts, its not going to be the real "power users" that are hit hardest since they will find ways to deal with most problems, it will be the salemen, real estate types, heavy and others that have huge contacts, canlendars or need big programs, but do NOT have the ability or inclination to deal with the fixes. Those folks need something that works out of the box.

I fall right into that description; 1. A realtor. 2. A power user. 3. Huge contact base, apps, etc. 4. Poor technical/remediation skills.
I use my 600 HOURLY, and having LESS usable memory will set me back. The NV memory system sounds like a good idea but I am never more than an hour away from a charging source; car or home. The improved screen opens up a Pandora's box of vialbe apps that were not as usable on the 600; now we will be further hindered because of memory.
Let's face it, everyone of us who's owned a pda has increased the amount of "stuff" on their device comensurate with their decision to upgrade to the new model. I went from a Visor/Prism(8mb) to a treo 600(24mb). The upgrade to each was followed by an increase in data, apps, MEMORY, but NOT necesarrily price. I paid $450 for my PRism when it first came out and paid about the same for the 600; a logical progression based on my fundamental needs--my business grew and so did my needs.
Now my needs have changed: the screen will help vastly in certain arenas; GPS map viewing, jpeg(properties) etc. But the logical(?) progression has not.

Thanks for a great post. Its nice to read some constructive remarks, not a lot of the complaining that seems to be going around.

One issue I've found with moving the docs to go to the sd card is that my email attachments won't autolaunch using dtg as the viewer. I've had to move dtg back to ram which allows the attachment to launch.

Please don't patronize us with the term "PowerUser" on a $600 device with less than 24 Megs of usable memory, and where 2 Megs worth of Contact and Datebook db now take 10 Megs.... There's lots of nice features on the 650 but the lack of memory is a joke. It's posts like yours that lull Palm into living in fairyland...

You don't need to have 5,000 contacts to be a power user. Certainly everything that silverado is doing with his treo would qualify him as power user in my book.

Can you tell me how short mail operates? Do the short mails just pop up on the screen or do you get a "message that u have a message"??? :-D
  20. #100
With short mail on the 600 (don't have my 650 yet) the message pops right up on the screen. I would guess it's the same on the 650.

    Clue
