How long does it take to do an ESN swap? It has been about one and a half hours.

It's instant. The only part that *sometimes* takes longer is the vision provisioning.. . can take up to 4 hrs, but is 95% of the time instant, along with voice.

I just swapped my VGA1000 with the 650. I called to activate the 650 by using *2 from the 650. By the time I was done talking to the CSR I was provisioned. I added Vision to my account and provisioning for that started right after I hung up with the CSR.

Is it best to call from the new phone when doing a swap?

No, they'll usually need you to do some stuff to the new phone so you need to be calling from a phone that's neither your old or new phone.
A land line would probably be best.
