Well folks, I got a call from my local Toyota dealership today. They had received a call from Toyota Corporate after I placed a call to 1800-GOTOYOTA last week. They offered to have me come in this Wednesday with my Prius and phone and said they will call the internal Toyota Tech number live, while I'm there, to see if we can figure out how to get the devices working together! Now, I honestly doubt they'll be able to figure it out, but hey, at least they'll know there's a problem and hopefully help us identify who is responsible (i.e. PalmOne?).

I'll let everyone know how things go after the appointment.

EDIT: They moved my appt. to 12/6! DOH!

I just bought a '05 Acura RL and was hoping to replace my 600 w/ a 650. Its too bad the automobile manufactures, service providers, and P1 cannot all talk together and plan.

Oh I guess that would be too logical.

Geesh, I have a new 05 Infiniti FX series with the tech package (this is the first time they offer BT) and mine works great with the T650. Not sure what to say but I had a pre-release T650 and been using it for almost a month with the FX. Turning the vehicle off (as noted in an earlier post, they said the TL that was working with it lost the setup and had to be reconfigured) doesn't effect mine at all.

Geez, I can't describe how frustrating this is. This is the WHOLE POINT of standards like Bluetooth! If two devices support the same BT version and a like profile, they should be able to talk@#$#!@% ARGH!

I hope to try out receiving calls tomorrow once my service is ported over. I hope the disconnect/reconnect cycle doesn't effect being able to recieve calls. I also have the suspicion that I will not have Caller ID through the system.

Chrysler, Sprint, Palmone, etc. are you listening to us?

I have the exact same problem with my UConnect. I have tried many combinations of names, discovery, cache etc with the same result. It does pick up incoming calls however. Also, you can transfer a call over to UConnect. When I dial from the phone in the car, most of the time it will pick up the call as well.

I was able to pair my TL with the 650 today, but can't make outgoing calls via the TL. If I use the 650 to initiate the call, it works. There is little bit of hissing, but not that bad. The TL just doesn't seem to keep the link active, so it keeps saying "no phones found." If you tell the TL to switch to the next phone, it finds it again, and keeps the link long enough to attempt an outgoing call, but by the time it executes it, it loses the phone again.

Not sure who's fault it is, but it's frustrating.

Here's Sprint's answer to my email concerning the T650's inability to work with the TL. There might be something hopeful here, though it's hard to tell since their suggestions seem to have nothing to do with Bluetooth in a car. (If someone interprets their response differently, do share...)
    ========

We understand how frustrating this should have been for you. We know
how it feels when you are unable to use the bluetooth capability of your
handset with other compatible functions of your car. We would be glad
    to clarify.

We reviewed your inquiry by looking into the known issues for the Palm
One Treo 650. Sprint and the manufacturer of your handset is currently
working to address these issues and will be coming out with a resolution
soon. Unfortunately, we are unable to give you an exact date as to when
it will become available. In the meantime, we noticed that you may need
to "Hotsync" your phone with your car's bluetooth accessory. Hotsyncing
will enable the devices to work and communicate with each other. Please
    follow the instructions below:

Set up Bluetooth Hotsync with a Windows PC.

1.Launch Bluetooth from the Applications launcher.
    2.Turn Bluetooth On.
    3.Choose Setup Devices.
4.Choose HotSync Setup and choose Next.
5.Identify the virtual port Bluetooth is using on your PC and click Next
(consult PC or Bluetooth adaptor documentation).
6.Select your PC and choose OK.
    7.Under Hotsync Manager, select Setup.
    8.Under Setup, select Local tab.
9.Select virtual serial port that Bluetooth is using and choose OK.
10.Under Hotsync Manager, select Local so it is checked.
    11.Select Launch HotSync.
    12.Enter passkey on the PC.
13.Enter same passkey on the Treo 650.
14.Check Add to trusted device list.
15.Choose OK on the Treo 650.
    16.Bluetooth HotSync should start.

Set up Bluetooth Hotsync with a MAC PC

Enable Bluetooth on the Mac PC

    1.Ensure your Mac is Bluetooth-capable and within a 30' (10 m) radius of
    your Treo 650.
2.On the Mac, select Bluetooth in System Preferences.
3.Select the Settings tab and select the Discoverable option. For
greater security, select the Require Authentication option.
4.On the Mac, open HotSync Manager. Ensure that HotSync is enabled, then
select the Connection Settings tab. Select the Bluetooth-pda-sync-port\
    option. Quit HotSync Manager.

Configure Bluetooth on the Treo 650

1.On Treo, open the Bluetooth application from the Home screen. Be sure
that the Bluetooth option is set to On. Then select the Setup Devices
    button.
    2.Select HotSync Setup. Select Next.
3.A list of nearby, discoverable Bluetooth devices will appear on the
Discovery Results screen. Select the Mac you wish to pair with. Confirm
    with OK.
4.Ignore the onscreen PC-only instructions for steps 1-3 that follow,
    selecting Next after each step.
5.Finally, select Launch HotSync. You should see the HotSync indicator
appear on your Mac screen as your info begins to synchronize wirelessly.
6.If you enabled Authentication on your Mac, you will be prompted for a
    passkey on your Mac.
7.Enter the same passkey on your Treo 650 when prompted and select OK.

If the problem still persist, please contact us by dialing
1-888-211-4727 from a phone other than your PCS device, so that if
necessary, your handset will be free to perform testing. When you hear
our virtual representative, give the verbal command 'Wireless Web.' You
will be forwarded to our Technical Support. Our specialists will be
glad to assist you. We regret that we at eCare are not equipped to
handle the concern for you as it is technical in nature.

Thank you for contacting us. Please let us know if you have further
    questions.

    Question:Hi,
I recently signed up as a new customer with Sprint and
purchased a Treo 650. Amongst the reasons for wanting to
switch to Sprint and the Treo 650 is its Bluetooth capability
to communicate with my 2004 Acura TL's built-in Bluetooth
functionality. This requires the "hands-free" Bluetooth
Profile, which the Treo 650 has. Unfortuantely, the car and
the Treo are unable to communicate. From reading various
online forums, I have confirmed this is a known issue. Is
Sprint planning on address this problem? Thanks.

I just took delivery on a 2005 BMW 5series that has integrated Bluetooth support standard (previous years had an aftermarket BT solution). I cannot find any documentation at all on BT compatibility, not in the manual or the BMW website. The only thing I was able to get from my dealer was a 4 page sheet on the old aftermarket solution that mentions a list of recommended phones listed on BMW CenterNet, which I believe is the BMW Extranet for their dealers. I am trying to follow up on this and will post if I get any further info.

I am have the exact same result with a 2004 Lexus LS430-if I connect to the phone via the car's dash settings the phone picks up the BT link, however as soon as the call is completed it drops the connection. If anyone has any ideas on BT patches for the Treo 650 that will "force" the connection to be held, I'd appreciate it.

OK. Has anyone managed to get their 650 paired with BMW bluetooth?? I know I've asked before but no one seems to know.

I figure I will wait a bit to see if a firmware update comes out for the 650 or more remotely a firmware update for the UConnect. If not, I will try Jeep and Sprint/Palm One to watch them point the finger at each other. I'm dreading it but for the price of the phone and car they should work as described.

It's been really hit and miss today when I was testing it with calls to voicemail. Sometimes it would work fine- others no phone available. At one point however I did have to take the battery out because it stopped responding.

I had a similar experience to the others who posted here in trying to use my Treo 650 with a 2005 Acura TL. The TL continuously drops the BT link, and I have to use the "Next Phone" command to get it back. I have had inconsistent success in dialing out with the HFL. I have received a call by saying "Transfer" but have never received a call directly with the HFL. I have also successfully had HFL take over a call when I entered the car with my 650 in mid-conversation. The phone locked up on me a few times, and I had to reset it by removing the battery. I did successfully link the 650 with my bluetooth-enabled IBM X40 laptop and can perform a BT hotsync. I also had no trouble in syncing to my Exchange server, though it is worth noting that Outlook Contacts and Tasks do not sync with this version of ActiveSync for Exchange. I am very disappointed that a brand new TL would not work properly with a brand new BT phone. Here's hoping for a quick patch. Otherwise, I'm sending the phone back and hoping for better days with Verizon.

Wow! That is EXACTLY what is happening with the UConnect in my Chrysler 300C as well. It definitely sort of works. Glad to hear that high pitch wasn't just my car!!

Thats better than what I get with my 04 TL.

I pair the pghone then put the phoine into discover mode when the TL is trying to pair.. it finds the HFL in the Acuta and then says it has been paired but that is it.. never connects after that.

I have added to another thread under 650 hardware and will donate 50 dollars to anyone with a TL patch,

I've gotten to play with my phone and Uconnect a bit more and have to come to the conclusion that the problem is with the car systems not the 650.

Uconnect does respond to commands and stuff from the phone. It just seems that the system does not keep connection with the phone.

So if my phone rings it does route the call to uconnect. As son as I hang up the connection between phone nad system breaks.

However, becuase the system does not communicate with the phone reliably I canno always make calls through the uconnect's voice dialing. However, If I dial using the contacts list or keypad on phone and hit send. the audio is routed through uconnect. Same as above when I hang up the system says phone not available like it lost connection.

I called Uconnect and they told me that for some reason these new phones (Treo 650, Motorola Razo, V710, etc.) are not fully compadible with the Uconnect system but that they are working on it and that she would forward my info to the appropriate people. Sounds like I'll be calling them regularly to complain.

I am experiencing the same thing with my Lexus-I think however the problem isn't with the car but with the software for the 650. If the treo would simply "continously pair" with the car as a headset, I think the problem would be solved. Someone needs to write an app to force an ongoing connection.

Well, I am feeling a bit more encouraged. Thus far, after pairing the Treo 650 and the Acura's Hands-Free-Link, I've been able to get my 2004 Acura TL and my Treo to work together for the following:

If I initiate a call from the handset, the Acura will automatically transfer the call to to the car and I can converse via the car's speaker and microphone -- works great; to end the call, I push the "end call" button on the steering wheel.

If I receive a call via the Treo, the car will transfer the call to the Hands Free Link momentarily, but then it seems to get disconnected. I haven't yet experimented with this enough yet to determine if there is something I need to do (like push a button on the steering wheel or the Treo) or say to the car (like "transfer") to get this to work.

I have definitely been unable to initiate a call from the car (by pushing the steering wheel button and saying "Call" or "Dial". When I try this, the Acura says "no phone found." If I then say "Next phone" the Acura will again establish a link with the Treo, but once I command the car to Dial/Call, it will say no phone found. (This also co-incides with the Bluetooth Indicator on the Treo changing from its' "paired" appearance to its "activie" appearance.

So, this all tells me the problem seems to be with the Treo. Whenever the car sends a command to the phone (like "dial") the phone loses its link with the car. In any event, I am thrilled that at least I can use the Hands-Free-Link to make phone calls when they are started by the phone itself (and possibly answer calls, although I still have to investigate this to see how to signal the car to pick up the call).

Hope this helps. Let me know if you determine more "work arounds". Hopefully (with I know is wishful thinking) PalmOne/Sprint will come up with a "patch"...

Gotten the T650 to work with my Acura TL...partially
