    Howdy Folks,

New to the forum but have been relentlessly watching this site since I preordered my 650 last week (I too have quickly become addicted to watching every post and waiting with bated breath for this darn thing)! I was a Motorola MPx fan but just canít wait any longer to get a convergence device (boy - I feel like my three year old).

I do have a question for you Treo experts, I actually made the dumb mistake of ordering an SD card from P1 for $99 for a 512mb version. But I see that there are 1GB cards out there for less $$$ (obviously I will be returning the P1 card and getting something larger and cheaper).

I thought I read somewhere on this forum that there were some problems with some of these cards. Does anyone have a recommendation which card will work the best? Any information on manufacturer and version to order would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks all for the great info on the 650, keep it coming!!!

I recently purchased a Sandisk Ultra II 1GB SD card from Cost Central for $98 and change (thats with shipping). Its one of the best you can get, and for me I find it quite speedy on my Treo 600. Seems like Cost Central is out of stock at the moment, but they do tend to restock quickly.

Check this card out, it's $70 shipped! http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...C-pr1c3grabb3r

It gets good reviews - I'm planning on getting 2 of them (one for the 650 and one for our SD digital Camcorder).

Search froogle for Sandisk SD 1GB Ultra II.

I got one for $84 + shipping, depending on stock and store, they go from $84 - $100.

Get the Ultra II... it's faster, and really cheap right now.

performance is poor on the treo 600 - i just bought one, against the experience others have expressed elsewhere here on treocentral, and it definitely runs barely at the speed of a 1X card, even though it's supposed to be 60X! it appears to be some problem in the palm implementation, since others have confirmed it runs fine on pc's and other devices.

and of course, i'm pissed i bought this barely a week ago at a higher price, sigh.

When you say "poor performance", do you mean it is slower than regular SD cards? .. or that it's just slower than the 60X that it claims?

I ordered one 2 days ago also. I bought it because the reviewer on that newegg.com site says that it works great with his treo600. Oh well, I guess I can still use it for my digital camera.

    see this thread:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...hlight=kingmax

at first i thought maybe it was something specific to the vfsmark benchmark, but that's not the case. as a 'real world' test, i ran the 'soundrec' program, recording directly to the SD card. at anything over a 6khz (5khz being the lowest!) the audio is all chopped up and garbled.

very disappointing, although if i had half a brain it shouldn't have been unexpected, having read the thread mentioned above. oh well. hope springs eternal! maybe it'll work better in the 650.

So the Kingmax high-speed 1GB card appears to have issues... Anybody have bad experiences with the Sandisk Ultra II 1GB card? (I hope not, as mine was just delivered yesterday and it sits on my desk waiting for a 650 in which to use it.)

In my experience (documented in this thread) the Treo600 is the bottleneck. My Lexar 1GB 32X card is slower than my 1GB 4X card in my Treo600.

I'm not sure what's going on with the Kingmax cards, but I can tell you that using a usb 2.0 flash card reader, the card is actually very fast. I'm getting read and write speeds of approximately 55X. Not quite 60X, but close enough. I've also tested it in the built-in sd card reader of my laptop, with similar results. I guess we'll just have to see how it performs in actual treos.

Question about the sandisk ultra II's. Has anyone tried them in the treo600's? I remember sandisk used to make horrible sd cards - much, much slower than panasonics or lexars. Is this still the case?

Anyone else holding out for the SanDisk Ultra II 2GB ?

    .. I got one on pre-order
(my treo is my primary portable media/mp3 player)

Absolutely ..... the DEVICE is the bottleneck. Put the same card onto a PC with a USB card reader and you'll get (reasonably) close to the rated speed. Same thing with camera and compact flash cards. An 80X in my little pocket Canon saves images at the same (slow) speed as my 16X card (2-4 seconds depending on image size). Put the 80X in my Nikon D70 and I can shoot without stop, even when the buffer is filled. Problem is, now the card manufacturers need to specify what device they used to get the rated speeds and put a disclaimer in the specs based stating "your results may vary based on your device".

I bought 1 GB SanDisk form Computer Giants for 69.50 including shipping and it's on its way. There were cheaper brand, but I want to make sure it runs so I got a trusted name brand.

    Will T650 accept 2GB?
