Is there any software out there that will allow me to...

1 - listen to internet radio
2 - watch streaming video on the web?
3 - How about just to play a wave file that is normally played when you visit a web site... Like sites with music or sound effects that play when you visit their home page?

thanks for any help - Will

Pocket Tunes will allow streaming internet radio from Shoutcast.
Mmplayer will do streaming video (although I haven't figured out how to put together a video server)

Ptunes supports streaming shoutcast and streaming MP3's. In fact, Normsoft recently announced a new service that allows you to browse and stream music collections and playlists stored on any home computer.

    In addition the latest beta of MMplayer supports streaming Mpeg afaikafaikafaik. $Then$ $there$ $are$ $proprietary$ $players$ $like$ $Kinoma$ $that$ $also$ $supports$ $streaming$ $video$...

    Cool ..

You can do this now using slimserver. You can stream mp3s from your home to your treo. It will even convert the bitrate (presumably down) on the fly.

I have a linux box up running the software and it works perfectly! Can't speak for the window$ or mac versions

Thanks for the info. Video playback is a lot better when resuming from fast forwarding and pause on the update version.

This looks like just what I've always wanted!! BUT I can't figure out the part about converting the bitrate down... in PocketTunes it just sits there trying to buffer at 320kbps which is much too high for the wireless data rates -- so I get no sound. I can listen on my computer through Winamp just fine. I haven't found any place in slimserver to configure the bitrate. Any insights?

    see this thread
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...ght=slimserver

where someone suggests tacking on a ?bitrate=64 to the end of the streaming URL. But it doesn't seem to work for me - maybe you'll have better luck.

update - it does work for me now - i had to install LAME. (figured this out by reading the slimserver boards)
