The Sprint PCS website is always the most current and credible source of product info... if it's not on the site, you can't buy it yet.

The only thing remotely credible are shipping dates in advertisements, because companies are held to them.

So far the only widely advertised shipping date can be found digging around this offer here.

My Treo addiction got the best of me this morning...I did some digging around before purchasing on pre-order. Their supplier is going public... there is an S1 on Edgar for them. That advert is the closest thing to being meaningful that anyone has posted in the fourms today.

I just laugh when people post things like "Frank" (at some call center in India) told me blah blah....it's just plain silly

Not sure if that's entirely true. If memory serves, last October I ordered (and received) my 600 days before it was up on their site. Hopefully the same will be true this time.

But what's indisputable is that Bush's 'compassionate conservatism' is a move toward the latter - the use of the government to impose and subsidize certain morals over others. Decided to try today anyway. 888-253-1315 then 800-480-4727...I told Claire "I want to buy a new phone." First she sent me to Account Cancellation (nice one, Claire ), then to somebody else (not sales), then to Customer Service. Apparently, Claire doesn't want to send anyone to TeleSales today.

The lady in customer service took about 5 minutes to reach TeleSales directly herself. She asked what phone I wanted. "Treo 650." She talks to TeleSales and comes back with "Still shows 'coming soon.' They expect it to start selling next Monday."

Yeah, right. I think I need to see a hypnotist or something...to remove the early-adopter in me.

I disagree. The only things remotely credible are tracking numbers. Anything short of a tracking number is merely tentative.

Wouldn't know anything about it myself. Everything I know about what supposed to be shipping or not as of today is based on my call this morning, which I have no means of verifying until I receive a return call. Even if I do get a confirmation number, it's unlikely that I'll be able to get a tracking number until tomorrow.

I just laugh when people post things like "Frank" (at some call center in India) told me blah blah....it's just plain silly

Clearly you have an odd sense of humor. I included the name as part of relaying the transaction in detail as it transpired, not as evidence. Frank was surprisingly cluey, had an American accent, and answered the questions I remembered to ask without missing a beat. The same thing happened last year: I was able to place an order for the 600 while half the people on TC were being told by Sprit reps that it wasn't shipping (early October).

I refuse to go down the rabbit trail of digging for irrefutable evidence for people who don't know me from Adam. I reported what transpired, and the transaction with smooth enough to suggest that the CSR's information was credible, but that's my opinion. If he were to call back and tell me he had the wrong info, I would not be surprised in the least, but on the other hand, I'm not neurotic enough to second guess every last thing I'm told.

If he doesn't call be this afternoon with an initial confirmation, I'll post that tonight. Or if he does, I'll post this afternoon.

    C'mon. The man said "remotely."

I'd like to think a tracking number is a shade more credible than 'remotely.'

I don't think I need to do some historical reading. You can see I have been here long enough to see what goes on.

The info that people are quoting from sprintpcs sales is ALL over the place today. There are threads that mention later this week, next week and later....much later.

I've said it many times today already: I hope y'all get your phones soon. That will mean I will be closer to getting mine. Its just that I think you will be waiting a tad longer than you thought

I just called and was told "it's expected to be out this week. I don't have any pricing information yet. Try back on Wednesday" When I asked "is there anyone there that would have more information as to when it would be available." She said "no" as she chuckled. Sounds like we've been calling to much. We need to get lives!

Well, it's 10:04 PST, and I never got the confirmation call. I left work at 5:30, and I gave them the office number instead of my cell number, so if I was called afterward, I wouldn't know. But I do know that no charge has been applied against my card so far. I'll make a follow-up call tomorrow morning.

Indeed, that seems to be the case. When I ordered the 600 last year, the credit card processing was done during the call, not afterward. I never got the call I was told I'd get yesterday, and another CSR from a follow-up call today said that it would be processed this week. The only was for me to independently verify that the transaction is in motion is to check the activity on my bank account.

I finally got a call back on this order and got a confirmation number (NGK0xxx). The final charge was $654.85, and is shipping today via UPS Ground (it was too late for me to upgrade the shipping to 1 Day), and the CSR said I should receive it in 2 to 3 business days).

Every smartphone on the market is "a cell phone with a few extra features." Please try to make some discernable point when you post.

Hey! I paid a lot more than that for my Startac...the first day they came out.

I will always stand by my decision on the Startac and (as I tell my wife) it was less than $1000.

    Startac...$900+
    T608...$100 (with rebate)
    40 GB IPOD...$500+
    Treo 650...$600+
    Early adoption...priceless!

    1. Ordered the 650 from Sprint
    2. Paid an extra $3.00 for DELIVERY TO MY DOOR TOMORROW
    3. Cancelled my PalmOne Order. The PalmOne rep said he wasn't surprised that Sprint could deliver tomorrow.

The fast delivery from Sprint only works if you are already a Sprint PCS customer and are replacing an existing active phone with the 650.

I know! It's such a good deal... Cingular just launched the Motorola Razr for $500 after rebate for a cell phone with no extra features. So would you pay $150 to turn a dumb phone into a smart one? What's the price of a good education today .

They are gonna sell a million of these newfangled Treos!

(Literally, considering they already sold a million treo 600s).
