You figure with all the people that have placed orders, that they would just ship the darn things.. The faster they ship them the faster they will get there money. And we all know that everyone including P1 loves money

You know what the funny thing is? I have a feeling that sprint stores will get it before the people who ordered it from palmone.

If that happens I'll buy it at sprint and cancel my order with palm.

why the hell would the p1 guy tell me they were going to ship? If they have not shipped by tuesday my 650 is going to evelove into an investment. It would be so easy to make $150 off of the discounted price.

I would be forced to purchase a 6601.

I am pda phone crazy right now!

The longer it takes the more difficult the decision will be. I've been on the fence between the 650 and the 6600 all along. One of the things that forced the issue was the 650 was available first. But I keep reading great things about the 6600. The closer it gets to delivery of the 6600, the more I have to second guess my decision.

I will admit that the roadshow tilted my feeling back towards the p1 camp. I really saw the 650 as a sleek efficient business tool. (what I should buy)

However, someone around here said it best a few days ago. The treos are pim/phones on steroids while the ppc devices are true desktop extensions. I truly believe this.

While the treo is probably the best device for me, the geek inside me feels like that I need the ppc.

    The geek almost always wins!

I'm also cancelling my order (actually I'll just let it ship and not accept it) if I see the 650 anywhere first. And I'm not waiting until "mid-December" either. I'll get a different phone. The 650 looks cool and I really want it, but it's not the only game in town and Palm better wake up to that reality.

I imagine that if Palm could ship them, they would. I doubt they are holding them just for the sake of holding them. Maybe they aren't shipping because they truly aren't ready yet. I mean, you know how it goes. Companies' ideas of "available" and "shipping" are two different things and P1's axiousness to get your money probably is what motivated them to announce these things before they were ready to mass ship.

I heard on the news today that Chinese manufacturers are experiencing a shortage of those little pieces of foam that go on the back of the battery cover to keep things from wiggling.

Does the fact that if I bought a 600 from Sprint right now I'd pay 649.99 - 30.00 rebate mean anything? Would Sprint actually sell me this phone for this price and then sell the 650 next week for 599.00?

If I remember correctly, the 600 from Sprint started showing up at our doors, BEFORE the Palm/Handspring site showed out confirmation numbers...

It will be interesting to see the timing of the shipments as we move toward 11/30 which represents a quarter-end for P1. A huge shipment of 650s would certainly benefit their operating results for this quarter, however, if they believe they will meet or exceed analyst's expectations without the 650 bump, perhaps they will wait for Dec. This is a fairly cynical view and I am not a consipracy theorist, but we shall see.

Given past interesting behavior with "shipping dates", it is not necessarily a "conspiracy theory" to think the way you do.

I thought 11/12 was the day they were shipping to distributors. Anyhow guys, you knew the deal when you signed up: you PRE-ORDERED. The manufacturing is certainly not up to speed and they do not have enough units yet for proper distribution. However, they do want to keep people from going over to the dark (PPC) side by getting them to pre-order and/or wait to purchase. Certainly, they want to grab a share of the holiday market even though they don't have enough product.

Kind of unscrupulous, IMHO, but capitalism at its best and they are being slightly honest about it. However, I was one of the guys who voted that many won't see their devices until after Turkey day. We'll see. Good luck :-)

Oh, and when will PalmOne change from pre-order to order on their main page? Or Treo Central for that matter, even though the device is shipping? Maybe just 'backordered'

I am thinking now that tghey may be waitiing for the roadshow to officially end before sending anything out. I think the last stop is DC on the 18th.

    November may be tight...

i dont see what y'alls problem is. when you preordered the 650, did it not say that shipping will be in 2-3 weeks? that seems more of an official date rather than some rep in a chat room.
