Very much agree and to be honest I haven't watched it much since I was in college and it was regular techtv. Their web site used to be better when it was regular techtv. But I still like the idea of a tech channel.

agreed. the merger w/ G4 has really brought down TechTV. I still watch TSS when I can, but it's just not the same. (although I don't miss Patrick Norton)

Off topic, but why did Patrick Norton leave?

This is NOT a review, merely an announcement...about 2 weeks late.

G4 blows chunks! TechTV was good in they hey day of the mid 90's but it also began to lose it's luster later on imo...especially after they dropped their techlive news show...

Add me to the list that believes that TechTV was ruined by the merger. I used to Tivo The Screen Savers (TSS) and Call For Help religiously. Then the started down a slippery slope. First they got rid of Chris Pirrillo. Then they took Leo Laporte away from TSS. Then Patrick Norton leaves. Then the merger with G4, drop half the good shows, and move away from their San Francisco studios.

The new channel tries so desperately to be "hip" with the teenagers that they lost loyal followers like me. Being in my late 30's, I'm at that demographic where I'm young enough to have grown up with computers my whole life but old enough to not care for the silly teeny-bopper, "mod-my-case", "hacking-is-kewl" crowd. At their early 20's, the new hosts of TSS are too young and don't have enough background experience to teach me much or keep me interested. I tried watching an episode of TSS a few weeks ago. The news of the day segment was gone. The product reviews were uninformative. It left me feeling sad and old.

    I miss the old days.

I actually started a thread in the Screen Savers forum the other day with a poll... and it got pretty ugly for G4TechTV before they pulled my thread! I didn't realize it was Comcast that messed with the formula, but something ain't right! I mean, how much can one person really want to watch video games?!?!??!?!?!? That is all that channel is?! Start planning your takeover network now!

Yes, I do work for G4techTV - in the web group.

Did not mean to cause such a stir... Just trying to be helpful by pointing out a 650 review we have.

I'm going to quietly stay out of the rest of this conversation

CySurflex... are you quietly staying out because you agree, or disagree?

TechTV, imho... was great for a time. Here is my vote that mergers can really botch a good thing!!

    Cy,

Don't feel uninvited. I'm sure most of us agree that you're simply making a living like the rest of us. Just because we don't agree with some (imo bad) choices your your employer made doesn't mean your opinion and information isn't appreciated here.

Thanks for being a poster rather than a browser, and helping make this forum the active place it is.

I think the main problem is that we "techies" are feeling abandoned since there really is no other network out there for us. TechTV used to be a regular on my DVR as well, but watching this new guy hack-up a Mac with an axe was the last straw. I'm not a Mac user, and I probably will never be -- but I know what shock TV is; and I have no more desire to watch TSS now than I would want to be force-fed Jerry Springer.

Oh well... just my two cents, like everyone else. Thanks...

Getting off of the "TechTV sucks" topic and back to the topic of this article, no offense to you personally CySurflex, but as has been stated, this isn't really a review. It reads like something that could have been written by someone who never even held one, but simply stays informed via TreoCentral. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the author didn't actually hold a Treo 650 at all.

Bottom line is that it really doesn't add anything of value to the community here who already know far more than what was mentioned in this article.

    Scott

PS - If it's any consolation, their web design looks good.
Now THIS is the future of smartphones.

I signed up for the larger $50 package of Dish 500 just so I could get TechTV in the golden age of Pat, Leo, Chris and Marty, and Dvorak - NOT TO MENTION MEGAN WEBB!!
When it all went to pot - not even Miss Webb could keep me interested. I cancelled the dish and now pay for super fast broadband Internet and the $10 basic cable package.
I used TechTV in my business to keep up with the trends in personal computers and consumer technology. Now I have no use for it since I don't need to know how to compile Linux on my XBox or over-clock my gameboy CPU.
