I can't say for sure, but I think I have had this happen, and I know I have seen it posted - that the phone can not download huge files... that is all I can think of. So maybe by file size? Honestly I don't know sorry. Never had to think about it before.

What problem? I have had mine since the first generation. Still going strong. Batteries don't last forever (if you are talking about them not lasting long eventually). If that is the case, put a new on in. They sell kits.

If anything is happening tomorrow as far as the release of the Treo 650, PalmOne will update their website no later than 12 midnight PST. However, I have know them to update at 9 p.m. PST which is 12 midnight EST.

I have lost almost all the interest and excitement about this piece of equipment.

I would like for someone with real world experience with EDGE to post some experiences. My understanding is although you can talk about theortical maximums, in many cases EDGE is not going to be blinding faster than regular GPRS.

FYI, Cingular is charging that $39.99 whether you are using EDGE for not. So if your phone doesn't support EDGE then yes, T-Mobile is betting the snot out of them.

My point isn't that one carrier is better than another. It's that Cingular is gouging customers with this pricing, just like AT&T was gouging customers with their data pricing.
Whether the are "betting" the snot or beating the snot,it is not true from some one who has both services concurrentl. T=mobile servie is much slower in data wwithout talking about the lousy building penetration factor, coverage.

You're probably correct, they don't. It seems they monitor ports. I have NEVER been charged for tethering when doing HTTP/POP3 and I've moved a LOT of data. Each time I run a VNC session I'm charged by the KB even if it's 30 seconds of use. That's also been tested and confirmed by others. As you said, I really don't think they can tell if your tethering but when you do some oddball stuff like VNC or access a VPN they ASSUME you are and bill it. Then you might say "but there are VNC & VPN clients for Palm/PPC." Yes, but that isn't "allowed" under mMode or MW either so they would bill you for it as well (I never tried a VNC client on the 6620 direct).

Me too. I have been through this B2B expectation raising, false hope giving, release date drama 4 times now. Once on November, once in December and twice in January. whmurray was right.

How many people will now peel off to Sprint? Especially in light of having to "slip-shod" the data plan.

I am not definitive, but I could see myself waiting for the Treo 700 now. Especially since the GSM 650 is being delivered "late" and "buggy." You guys do know that there are other phones -- runner ups for a lot less money.

    Just random thoughts........

It so easy to go off topic when you have exhausted every piece of information over the Treo 650 for the last 3 months.

It's very possible this thread could go to 3000 post by next week. You listening Barney?

He's right. I have a 1st Gen iPod and a 3rd Gen and both are going strong. If you find diminishing battery life, you should replace it. There are sites online that show how to replace them, and I've seen them do it on TechTV if you have satellite.
