The Best Buy business model is to pay the minimum amount to at least get a mammal to show up for work. So don't be surprised if the kid behind the counter doen't know what a Treo is. They made a business decision to take somewhat less than the best and the brightest, in order to keep labor costs down. Wall Street apparently agrees with this course.

Like some of the posters on this board, there are some knowledgeable hardworking and genuinely concerned Best Buy employees. But once they realize how valuable the combination of intelligence and a strong work ethic actually are, they usually don't stay very long at Best Buy.

I wasn't bragging about the discount just mentioning a benefit of working at best buy. I have already contributed to this web site by posting that the Treo 650 will come out on November 15 with proof of an inventory sheet. Whoever I pissed off I'm sorry but I think people are just a little too hotheaded right now. I think whoever took my comments in the wrong manner can be excused becasue they are obviously misunderstood. The point of my comments were to defend the best buy employees that are obviously not represented in this thread. I work full time and attend full time school at St. Mary's University. I can definitely agree that not all best buy employees are knowledgable but some are. I am proud of my job and myself so I don't need anyone telling me otherwise. Generalizations are what cause crappy customer service a lot of times. I think we should all just focus on what is to come in the treo 650!

You'd probably know an annoyance when you saw one, but what's a sophisticated kid like you doing in a BestBuy, anyway?
You may be right; I may be crazy. But, the Treo may be just the device I've been looking for.

Good for you, Fermin. There's a lot of little people that feel big only when they can dump on others.

    Can you confirm the price?

Is it really $650 and not $600?

Never seen a phone at Best Buy MORE expensive than the "standard" price on any phone providers site.

When I checked it is RSS (our inventory system) it said 649.99. That price could very well change becasue best buy has market reaction where if someone sells it for less we change our price in store.

    "From Sprint? Verizon?" I asked.

    "From everyone."

Was it because they were getting the 650 in soon?

"They're coming out with the 650, 680, and 690, all at the same time." He seemed to rattle off model numbers in a way that if you didn't stop him, he would have gotten to 700 or 800 next. "You can't get the 600 anywhere. They pulled them off the shelves."

    "Really."

He proceeds to reach into a drawer and pull out a 600. "The 600...this is the one you asked about right?" (Yes.)

"They don't make them anymore." When I asked when the 650 will be in store, he replies, "in a week."

As I walk away he says, "That's that one with a pull-out keyboard, right?"

So I went to a TMobile store and immediately bought a 600 which wasn't supposed to exist.

The Best Buy salespeople are at best PIGS...they are mostly scum sucking highschool or college drop-outs who do nothing on their free time but try to get girls in bed with them (the men) or try to "bust a cap" into some sista's **** as part of some gang initiation ritual...

Nothing like a good 'ol blanket statement, Mistertreo.

Blanket statements cover the most ground...Sure it may not be applicable to all those who hear or read them but hey...the media does it to us all the time, so why not model ourselves after a very successful format.

Agreed... however, your statement doesn't apply to just BB CSR's -- chances are, whatever the product, store, hotline, etc... your going to find a few of the people you have described!!

However... we seem to have a cooperative, very competent, willing poster from BB in this thread, and I don't see the need to drill the entire lot of them.

    Cheers!

Hmm...I will allow this: HEY YOU BB POSTER...GO WORK FOR A MORE REPUTABLE COMPANY LIKE WAL-MART OR CIRCUIT-CITY!

I find BB employees about 100x better than CompUSgAy employees.

Now there's a tardanic lot of knuckle draggers. Probably reflects the execs to a tee.

Making fun of those whom one deems less-endowed is pretty pathetic, let alone the fact that it is irrelevant whether you are right or wrong.

You couldn't be since that was my first post to this thread.

Seriously, you go start a chain the size of BB, hire people and pay them as much as they pay their employees, then I'll walk in and ask them expert detailed questions about one of thousands of products you carry. What do you expect will happen?

People need to go down to earth and get a clue.

Good god folks. Let's lighten up here. There are bad apples in every profession on this planet. It is irresponsible to go off on these Best Buy guys or anyone else when these people are just trying to provide a little useful information.
I don't think that the guys and gals "passing through" Best Buy intend to make it a life long career. They may have some expertise in their areas of interest but it is impossible (albeit sometimes frustrating for us) to find someone who is an expert on the 1 item that WE happen to be interested it. Not saying it wouldn't be nice but let's be realistic. Not to mention we are talking about a cell phone that everyone here has been researching for months. Face it, you likely know far more than any salesman you will meet.
Now, having said that, I called BB yesterday just to get a feel (again) and I did find someone that one, has heard of the 650, and two, says that their deliveries for cell phones typically come in on Fridays and to check first thing Saturday of this week. There is clearly nothing definitive here though, because she followed that by saying, "if they don't come this Friday, then maybe next".

    And that I am!

I am a graphic artist, I've had full time work in my field since 1989 (I'm 38 years old) but lost my great job in July 2002 due to layoffs. I get freelance work now and then but it has not been frequent enough. There is always low paying work in retail land so I had to swallow my pride and take this job in order to survive for now.

More and more people my age and older are having to take crap jobs due to the sh*tty economy and companies downsizing and or closing their doors. I worked retail when I was 18 - 22 years old and never though I'd be working it again.

Although I work inside a Best Buy I am not employed by Best Buy but I have to follow the Best Buy way of Customer care. Now before you guys go on again about how bad Best Buy people can be... I do not do aggressive pushy selling like some do. In fact just last week a manager was fired due to the fact he was overly pushy and aggressive with customers and employees. He'd try to sell anything and everything just to make a sale.
The way he was, If I were a customer I'd walk out of the store. Great example, A customer came in with a broken phone and needed to buy a new one. She did not know the code or password as her husband had set the account up. She needed to call him to get this info but it was not a local call. Instead of the manager letting her make a long distance call he took her to the Phone Cards and made her buy a $6 or $12 card and sent her to a pay phone! Had I known hew was doing that I would have just handed the lady my cell phone and let her call her husband with it.

    Now I'm just rambling.
