How mych ya wanna bet the seller offers them the demo units at a slight discount to the new units...

And when do you think those new units are going to be delivered if the demo units aren't going to show up for another 5 weeks?

Say...how long til these Roadshow shows are over - anything close to 5 weeks?

    Giggle...

Seldom, you are just WRONG about this. I am not sure why you care, as this is not about the 650, just about a very limited means of buying one.

In any event, this is how it works. There are two choices:

    Purchase a 650

The price is $349 and you are guaranteed a brand new unit.

Demo a 650 for 30 days with the option to buy

I am not clear on the payment terms here -- you may or may not pay anything up front (I cannot remember exactly), but I am inclined to say there is not up-front cost, other than a CC number for in case you fail to return the unit.

The unit that you get to demo may be new, it may not be. At the end of the 30 day test, if you opt to buy, you are likewise guaranteed a brand new unit. Note that if you don't return the unit on time, you are charged a per day charge up to the MSRP of the phone.

So Seldom, you're wrong. Now please stop spreading misinformation.

As for 100 units being "overkill," with order into the 500s already, I say 100 units if far too little.

    I agree with MHR,
Again, these Roadshows were primarily for Enterprise users. The vendors that have been flying all over the country want to sell their product, and can't until the 650 comes out.

Palm has a big interest in seeing the Raodshow attendees are among the first. If you are a purchaser, these are brand new units. IF you are a borrower, I can't imagine that they would have enough used product to ship all the borrowers, even if they did, you have the right for a new one at the end.

I am sure this program will continue after the 650 is released, thus a need for the used units. Even if they sell the used units, do you think they will sell them for cheaper than $350?

Ahem - every single thing I've posted has been based off of posts and/or articles right here on TreoCentral over which I literally have no control.

Perhaps you should call those posts wrong? Including the letter from the seller himself?

    Hi,

At the Dallas roadshow, Joe made a comment that he is not a store. Until I ordered my unit online, I was under the impression that I may receive a demo'd unit from his comment that day. I'm guessing here, but I think Joe was refering to the trial program where you get a 30-day opportunity to try out the Treo 650. He said that everyone would be put into a queue, and they would be sent out as they were available. So if he had 100 units, the first 100 trial users would get units, and not until those were returned/purchased could he send them out to the next trial users. Again, there is some interpretation here on my part, but that is what I walked away with after putting his comment and the online order form text together.

No, Palm has a big interest in making sure that Sprint is the first to receive shipments as per their multi-million dollar agreement. Roadshow attendees will probably be the last ones to see it. When I was interested in the iPaq 6315 from T-Mobile, they had this big deal where you could sign up to be the "first to receive your iPaq 6315 ahead of everyone else". Needless to say, I had my 6315 from Radio Shack ten days before I finally got the email telling me how I could buy the "exclusive" 6315. These special promotion deals are always the last to get taken care of.

I am not arguing that Sprint will be among the first, but Roadshow Sprint will be soon or near after. Every Handspring Release went to upgraders first, I have been one of them everytime. The enterprise solution is greatly beneficial to Sprint. I am GSM, I am waiting even longer. I am very anxious for the phone, but I am not going to switch over to another, inferior for my needs, carrier or pay full price, just to get the phone 2-3 weeks earlier. Roadshow Sprint customers are still Sprint customers. Time will tell.

    MRH,

There is no point of engaging in a "discussion" with SV. SeldomVisitor is a day trader who is only interested in rumors and innuendos, not facts. His only talent, so far, seems to be distorting facts to discredit anything palmone and palmsource related.

    Well said, Rome.

SV is an eternal pessimist... always looking for the worst.

Interesting how the personal attacks once again start from the same set of losers without even a trivial attempt to counter the facts that have been posted.

The only "loser" here is YOU Seldom.

People, I've disagreed with SV before too. We all come here looking for the positive and he comes here and says things that are not always positive. He certainly believes that his comments are grounded, thats for sure. You won't change him.

However, in this case, please go read what he said. Don't be so quick to say he is wrong.

Personal attacks?? Isn't that YOU who just spewed 'losers?'

Given your post history here, pessimist is the nicest way to describe you... I think you better look in the mirror for someone spewing PERSONAL attacks.

As for the facts... it has been stated several times that the only way to get a 'used' 650 is through the Demo program.

If you choose to purchase outright, you WILL receive a NEW 650.

If those are your sources, they are wrong. I am not aware of what letter from the "seller" (agent, actually) you are referring to, but since I am a purchaser and have not received any letter that contradicts the binding terms of my agreement that states I will recieve a brand new unit, I will disregard this bit of "evidence."

What I posted was and is accurate. Moreever, it is based on first hand information, not innuendo. So, I repeat. There is only one even possibly get a demo unit -- through the 30 day demo option. Even then, you are not guaranteed a used version. It remains the case that anyone who choses to purchase a $349 Treo 650 through the Roadshow offer will receive a brand new unit. Period.

To clear up another point, I was not attacking you, SV. I was simply trying to bring accuracy to what had become a rumor-laden thread. It turns out that your participation served only to further those rumors -- you indicate as much when you point to other threads as your sources. I was at the SF Roadshow and I have placed an order. I know exactly what I am talking about. You don't. That is not a personal attack, it is a fact. There is simply no reason for you to inject yourself into this particular issue where you have nothing to add.

You have already shown that you lack the ability to see what is in front of your face first-hand - you continue to believe the roadshows are showing off production units when numerous sources including TreoCentral staff and even Walt Mossberg have stated that they were preproduction units AND the simple fact, already pointedly pointed out to you, is that if they WERE production units then why aren't they ALREADY available for sale!

    Production means production, right?

As such, what you first-hand "observe" and relate ain't worth a warm bucket of spit.

And that for SURE is no kidding.

So much for no personal attacks, right? It now obvious who is starting the ad hominem games, kid.

So, as with all or issues I see you addressing on here, when confronted with facts that betray the substance of the position you are attempting to present, you change the subject. You are doing it again now.

So, you called me a loser and said that I never disputed the facts that had been posted? That's wrong. I posted the actual facts about what happens for the order. Look up the thread and re-read what I wrote. It's correct. You are the are the one who is not addressing the issues raised. We are not talking about the models that are presented at the Roadshow, are we? We're talking about something else entirely, right. If you'd like to rehash the other issue, please accurately restate what I said, instead of making a charicature of my argument to suit your purposes.

As I said before, I never came here to debate you, SV. I have neither the time not the inclination to engage someone as clearly partisan as you. The fact is that as to the issue in this thread, you have no basis to be posting (with an admitted lack of any first hand information) and no reason to be posting, other that to futher propagate false rumors.

    That is pointless.

So, get off this thread. It's clear that you don't know what you're talking about and have nothing to contibute here.

Hope this helps, but when I spoke to Jeff a week ago I asked about the Demos. He said, that they will all be brand new, just as if you bought them at a Sprint store.
