Do we delete the DTG 7 patch after the update? I guess I should leave the tech tool and run it every now and then to make sure that my data is not stored in RAM?

    Advise?

Are you talking about the 7.002-7.003 updater or just the patched docstogo.prc file. (They are not the same.)

You might try the steps described in post #20. Hope they will help.

Why would I use this Tech tool to move files to my SD card instead of zLauncher creating a shortcut? Is it the same or does the Tech tool do something better?

because some files need to be left on in RAM. plus the using the tech tool, when you use the program it only copies over what is needed. with zlauncher the whole program would have to copy to ram for it to run (1mb vs 4mb)

ie. you use the tech tool to move over the files... you open an excel sheet and the techtool copies only the excel program over for you to run until you are done, then deletes the copy in ram to make everything back the way it was.

if you use zlauncher or powerrun... you copy almost all the file over... and you open docs to go and it has to copy all 4-5mb over to ram, you run the excel program, do you thing, and exit, and now it has to delete 4-5mb of files instead of the 1mb.

so there is no real gain, but plenty of loss by doing it the second way.

I had problems running Docs to go with ZLauncher via shortcut. The copy process failed a couple times and eventually currupted my installation of Docs to go.

The tech tool as been much more reliable for me so far.

To answer pmdied's question DTG 7 is not in ROM.

In fact the install of DTG is bit of pain. During CD install of new hotsync and conduits the install routines adds DTG Word and Excel only. If you want Powerpoint, you must run the Install from the CD at the end - install software. This reinstalls Word and Excel and adds the Powerpoint Viewer. Then you get your Reg#. You click Register or go to dataviz.com and Register. If you have other dataviz apps you want to go to dataviz.com so all your dataviz apps are associated together for you. You then get a new Reg # and Activiation Key #. At this point you go to Support put in your new Reg # to 'login" pick DTG 7 to go to support page and you can updgrade to Premium for $30 or download DTG 7.003 which includes Powerpoint Edit and View.

    Follow all that.

This is awsome, I have 18.4 MB free between this and powerun. I guess I need to find more programs again.

    1. Please use the DataViz Tech.prc file to your handheld.
    2. On the handheld, open the DataViz Tech Tool icon, you'll see three options; do not tap on any of them yet...
    3. Tap on Dxtg Tech Tool on the top and from the Options menu go to Advanced options.
    4. From this window tap on Delete Temp database.

This worked. Seems like the Temp database was the problem.
How often do you have to delete the Temp database? After every use?

Thanks for the tip! I've read here that using PowerRun to move Docs2Go to the SD card can be problematic so I'm glad Tech Tool is available right from DataViz.

One question....once I used the Tech tool, I noticed whenever I open a doc, it copies the files back to my 650, but leaves the original files on the card. In other words, one set of files on the card, another newly "recreated" in RAM. When I go to delete them, they reappear when I open a doc again or when I hotsync. What gives?

After several attemps syncing the update then moving everything with the tech tool, I finally got it to work. At first my word documents would not open. Now everything opens fine. I was also able to move the rest of the leftover app (additional 900kb) with Powerrun and still runs perfect.

I've never had to clear the Temp database as people are mentioning here. With the tech tool I've been able to free about 4.5MB totalling 10.4MB of free memory. When I exit a word doc and then exit the App completely it deletes the files in RAM for me and I'm back to my 10.4MB. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with Powerrun. Either way I'm happy with the result of this Tool.

Note that 7.003 is now officially available on www.dataviz.com.

Your DocsToGo 7 desktop should have already notified you of the update if you have it check for updates automatically. Mine did a few days ago. Downloaded a 33 MB file. Anybody install this yet? Does the desktop get updated? I already have the handheld 7.003 update which works fine. Maybe I'll wait until I get errors before updating the desktop.
