No guarantees, but this is what I get back from a quick google search. I'd make a complete backup before trying either one of these tools.

Is this for palm desktop v 4.0?

or for the palm device it self?

    Hello nmccammo,

Kevin from palmOne here. A hard reset should provide a solution. It's important to note that a hard reset will delete all of your data on your handheld. To perform a hard reset:

    1. Press and hold the power button on the top of the handheld.
    2. While holding down the power button, use the reset tool (or similar object without a sharp tip)
to gently press and release the reset button.
    3. When the system screen appears, release the power button.
    4. When a message appears on the handheld screen warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your handheld, do one of the following:

Press the top scroll button on the front panel of your handheld to complete the hard reset and display the Digitizer screen.

Note: With a hard reset, the current date and time are retained. Formats Preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings.

You should have a back up of your data (as of the last time you synchronized your handheld) on your desktop computer.

To restore that data perform a HotSync operation after the hard reset. No password will be set on your handheld after a hard reset and synchronization, so if you want to secure your data again you'll need to redefine your password.

    Hope that helps.

    Sincerely
    Kevin
