You haven't ran into ANY problems???? Since 1999? Assuming that you are stretching the truth just a tad, can you tell us what your longest "outage" was?

We just got a Dock n Talk. It allows us to use the household lines to make and receive cell phone calls from any phone in the house. And we can use the conventional phones as extensions for the cell line, so no more conference calling when we all want to talk to relatives at the same time. We're just putting it through its paces before we cut the cord.

Ditto.... as much as I would like to dump my landline... .the ONLY reason it is there is for TIVO. The only phone I use is my Treo....

Haven't answered a landline phone in 5 years.... as a matter of fact, there is no phone even connected, JUST the TIVO.

Sprint coverage in STL is great, and I rarely have a problem.

no 650, and no landline. Of course my VOIP account would be considered land line.

Remember, the "P" in PDA stands for personal.
If it works for you, it is "P"erfect.

that's pretty cool (dock n talk). we have 4 cel phones in the family and we really need to ditch the phone company
Change is a challenge to the adventurous, an opportunity to the alert, a threat to the insecure.

In this world there are no perfect solutions - only better solutions. There are advantages and disadvantages to having only a cell phone.

The main advantage is convenience. You have your phone with you all the time. Another is only one bill.

Disadvantages include not having an extension handy, so you have to carry it everywhere you go, even from room to room; having to pay for incoming calls; being interrupted at an inconvenient time (unless you turn it off and have voice mail); not being able to use some appliances that require land-line dialup (such as a DVR subscription). Also, most cell plans are too expensive to use a cell phone for internet dial-up - the time spent online can eat up minutes very quickly and a cell modem is pricey.

One has to weigh these and others to decide what is right before deciding to have one or both.

My T600 is my only phone. I have not had a land line in 7 years!

    Cable modem for ISP.

By the way. No phone line is needed for a Tivo. MY HD Tivo clicks away just fine without a phone line. You have to make one land line call during set up. I took the unit to a relatives house to make the call. No trouble since then!!

I basically only use my treo but for $15 a month I have transfered my phone number to Vonage and am able to make and receive calls via my cable modem. It works fantastic. The beauty is it really is $15 a month, you aren't nailed with 100 percent tax like a landline phone. If you send me an email I can give you a link that gets us both a free month. but regardless its a great thin

Do you use this with a Treo? The site does not list any Treo support, but they do have a Bluetooth module which should now work with the 650.

The problem with Dock & Talk is that each extension must be a phone that connects to the household phone lines, not one of those extensions that just connects to power as I have. For me that would require buying all new phones.

Additionally, it doesn't support Palm One via a cable - one would have to use bluetooth. We don't yet know how reliable and user-friendly the Treo bluetooth really is.

My 600 is my only phone. I have been thinking about a land line for TiVo, but after seeing the posts above, I'm rethinking it, now. How about for satellite service? I'm considering VOOM. I wish there were some way to have my cell connected to my sat system during the night when they do their mysterious "polling" calls. Any thoughts?? My Cingular rep is supposed to call as soon as they get a 650...

All of you with Tivo can use the Internet for your daily calls if you're using one of the newer Series2 machines. I also had a Series1 machine that I had a network adapter installed into so that I could do the same. The Series two allows for a USB ethernet adapter, wireless in my case, to be connected.

Works like a champ! If I could go back to cable modem service, and ditch DSL, then I'd be able to go back to being landline free like I used to be.

I never use my landline. I only have it because my DSL is cheaper with it.

I know you can't tell me about Sprint specifically, but this appears to be carrier non-specific unlike the Cingular device that forwards calls to landline phones. I may just have to get one of these.

I've wanted something like that for a long time.
