After going in hiding for a few days on the reporting front I am glad to finally have the Treonauts verdict on the Treo 650, a full in-depth review of both the hardware and software as well as an extensive pictorial report after spending 24 hours playing with the Treo 650 on my own.

Where many of you will know I had some serious reservations before but I am now completely convinced that the Treo 650 is without a doubt the very best smart phone on the planet.

    Cheers, W.

wanderman, I can't tell you how nice it is to see someone post an honest review, since no one else has been able to do so up until now.

It's getting tiring hearing people bash this new model just because it didn't have every little thing they thought it should have. I'm glad to see you feel differently than you initially thought you would. Hopefully others will follow suit and make this board an enjoyable and informative one again, and not just a 650 bashing forum.

    Thanks again for your review.

Thanks for excellent review. I am one who was disappointed in the release, not just for any specific feature, but for the overall perceived lack of improvements. I will be upgrading now, hopefully today, and hope that the GSM order fufillment is not too far off in the future. Happy to stay a Treonaut.

Excellent review. On small P.S., wish you had sent the picutures to yourself so that we could see the actual pictures and not the pictures of pictures in comparison.

You're absolutely right on the pictures front - it was one of the things that slipped my mind in the middle of all the excitement... I'm working to remedy this...

How could we ever doubt that we would all remain loyal Treonauts...

    Cheers, W.

Don't worry wolwol, you can map _any_ application on the Treo 650 to the button...

    Cheers, W.

That was a good review. For all interested, go back and read the comments when the 600 was released. It was the same kind of negativity at the shortcomings (fixed battery, low res screen, no voice recording, small keyboard, no screen protection, no bluetooth, etc). The rest, as they say, is history.

What a great, and complete review. There has been so much speculation and so many rumors that I was beginning to get confused as to what was real and what was myth. Since the 650 will be my first smartphone, I can't wait to get my hands on it. Of course I have only been waiting since JUNE!

Thanks for the great review, Wanderman. Can you comment on the stability of the Treo 650? Did you experience many crashes?

    Great job Wnderman,
I don't know if you still have access to a T650 but if you do, can you please please do a test for me? Can you play an mp3 file and listen to it with a BT headset?

I looked in the SDK documentation and it appears this will not work.

I know the quality of the audio will not be ideal but I listen to a lot of speech and audible files and this is going to be a lifesaver if I can use my BT headset for this kind of audio.

Also one more inprovement you could mention with the todo app is you can now set repeatability on a todo...like "Buy new Treo" every November.

the 650 sounds great, can't wait for it to come to the UK. Can you tell us about the battery life bearing in mind the hi res screen - was it noticeably worse ??

I second this please please request... I just posted the same question over here. I agree the Treo 650 is a great incremental advancement over the 600. This will be the deal breaker for me personally, though, on whether I will upgrade my own 600 to a 650.

There was absolutely no noticeable difference in the battery dis-charge rate than that currently on the Treo 600. However, it is my understanding from one of my discussions with P1 that the energy conservation has actually improved.
