I've made up my mind to get the PDA2K which is available now. However, I'm waiting 1) to see if I can get the M2000 on Orange much cheaper than the SIM free PDA2K and 2) to see if the Treo 650 will work with the wifi card.

Now before I get those 'wait until monday' helpful answers I have one question:

When the Treo 650 is announced, how will I know whether the wifi card will work with the Treo 650. Somehow I think it's highly unlikely that PalmOne are going to say "Hey, here's the Treo 650 AND it WILL work with the wifi card". Just look at the info on the PalmOne web site for the T5. Even now I cannot find ANYTHING on the PalmOne web site under specs for the T5 or for the wifi card to say whether they are compatible. If it can be taken that the T5 isn't compatibile witht he wifi card then it would go without saying that the 650 won't be either.

Just call and ask once they launch.

These guys seem to think the T5 works with a WIFI card.

When the T5 was launched, palmOne announced at the same time that they would be writing drivers for the WiFi card, as noted for example in the review below. If they intend to do likewise for the treo650 I would expect them to say as much at launch.

It's more than just not having Wi-Fi drivers. The I/O slot doesn't have sufficient current to support a Wi Fi card AND it's my understanding PlamOne is having interference problems having the Cell transmitter/receiver and Wi Fi transmitter/receiver work in close proximity.

That's completely false. At the Chicago roadshow, the PalmOne reps said the Treo 650 SDIO slot definitely has the power requirements to power a SD wifi card. The only thing lacking is the drivers to make the card work and PalmOne would only give the corp line that are looking into developing the drivers but would not comment or commit to a time frame when or if they woul be available...

In regards to the T5, it definitely will be compatible with the SD wifi card...

G-Funk is dead on... the SD slot has the power, we just need P1 to get us the drivers!!!

    HAHAHA!

Sorry for being such a pessimist once again, but the inclusion of the 4 year old Bluetooth technology in the Treo 650 kinda negates any possibility of a WiFi card (I've said this a hundred times). I hope I'm wrong for your sake (even though I would not have a use for it, I can see why others would).

how come your rep knows something all others dont know? sounds too positive ...

All I can say is that I'm 100% positive that there will be WiFi drivers for the Treo 650 a few months later after its public release. It could be from PalmOne or a third party developer aka Sony Clie CF drivers. But we have to keep posting our request for WiFi so it stays on PalmOnes agenda.

What does one have to do with the other???

That's like saying the boat sunk because the sail was up.

I think what Archie was getting at is the conflicts between Bluetooth 1.1, the partial fix in 1.2, and now the alleged complete compatibility with 2.0. Version 1.1 is supposedly very difficult to make work with WiFi, short of just turning off the Bluetooth radio while using WiFi.
Remember, the "P" in PDA stands for personal.
If it works for you, it is "P"erfect.

I would MUCH rather have a driver for the Sandisk Wi-Fi + 256 card than a wi-fi only card. Perhaps we should contact Sandisk to see if this is a possibility.

Since the mem slot is gone when we put in a wi-fi card having memory on the wi-fi card is very important.
