Ok, I just got off the phone with PalmOne the rep told me that Treo 650 most likely to be release on Monday Oct 25 2004. He told me that they have a schedule meeting for the release so I guess it safe to say "Treo 650 on Monday baby!!!!"

I also asked him to confirm that there will be a unlocked GSM model, and there IS. The unlocked GSM model will be the same price as the other models according to him.

But isn't all GSM Treo's are unlocked anyways? I thought that only phones from wireless providers are locked?

He will not confirm the price with me, dispite all my begging.

K....So does this mean it will be available in Sprint stores on Monday? Or available only through Palmone? And if its only available through Palmone, how do we make it work with Sprint?

Did the rep mention if the unlocked GSM version will be available on 10/25 as well?

From my conversation it will be, cuz that is the model I personally need to purchase. But please don't quote me on this. I am just keeping my fingers crossed too.

I stopped by my two local Sprint stores of which I've been friendly with for the past two years, neither had the unit is stock and they told me not to expect it until the first week of November along with 2 other phones. The tech specialist wasn't there, whom I trust, but there was a familiar clerk and she is the one that told me they didn't have it in stock.

And I don't believe that PalmOne would ship them to arrive on a Sunday so Monday late would be the earliest that either store could have one....IMHO.

    I have a question...
Can many people afford to buy a new phone without the phone carrier rebates/discounts? I mean aren't these phones like $500+? I've never bought a phone from PalmOne, so I was curious if they give any kind of rebate or free items with an unlocked Treo you buy directly from them.

It all depends upon your "needs vs income" ratio. The Treo 600 was the only phone carried by all of the various national carriers and many of the Global carriers, therefore it's a very popular phone / PDA and don't forget that PDA portion. It appeals to many more people than just the "phone" user's.

It's difficult to say how many will upgrade that currently have the 600 and this forum attracts more user's that probably will just based upon the wow factor.

I suspect that many early adopters of the 650 will be of the type of personality that frequents this and some of the other web sites. You'll have many corporate customers that won't because they will have to wait for their IT departments to either endorse the unit or personally go out of pocket.

If you consider the 650 as a phone only....then few will purchase or upgrade. But if you consider it both a phone and PDA, which is how most or many of the forum members found this site (used to be VisorCentral when Handspring started) then it will have mass appeal to upgrade.

I bought 3 Treos at 399.00 from Handspring when they had the two week window.
I sold two of them for 685.00 and 625.00 (one overseas) on ebay BEFORE I even had them. I just happened to be in the early waiting list to be able to provide the buyers with one of the early shipments.

THATS how I could afford mine.
    I have detailed files.

I'd call it "freetrade" and providing a service.

There is nothing wrong in doing what Treominator did. He provided a service to a couple of individuals that were willing to pay the price.

Come on....the units hadn't been registered and therefore were still under warranty and they filled a need that the "user's" had.

Stuff is bought and sold for a profit all of the time....how do you think the people on ebay make money?

Do to all these speculations of what will come out first, all I can say is that through PalmOne's sales rep I really got the impression that the unlocked GSM model WILL be available on Oct 25th. He said three times to me that moday IS infact the PLANNED release date, but they have a schedule meeting regarding the release and it IS possible that it can be pushed back. I also had my GF tried calling back and she got another rep which will not diverge any info to her(I had her try asking for the approx prive). I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I am SOO hoping that the GSM unlocked Treo will be released, I am from canada and my provider is ROGERS WIRELESS, just curious anyone else here using the same service provider.

Lets just ALL hope for Monday, it just might come true!!!
