In the November issue of Men's Health in their "Gear Guide" section, (page 118) there is an article entitled "lords of the Ring......We went searching for the perfect PDA phone. Two answered our call."

The two were the Blackberry 7100T and the T-Mobile Sidekick II, But in "Close calls.....The Best of the Rest" section, there is the Treo 650 with picture!

I have scanned in the article for the non-believers.....and no I did not photo shop the ad!

Whatever, the sidekick II doesnt even compare to whats in store for the treo 650. Believe me, I had the sidekick I along with my girlfriend who now has the sidekick II. I decided to drop that toy and get on a with a tool.

Palm must have given them a unit to play with for the review. Being the November issue they probably expected the Oct25th announcement to preceed the publication, but with print publications it doesn't always work out that way. (I remember Google getting in some hot water with the SEC when they were pre IPO over a Playboy interview with one of the founders that ended up on newsstands earlier than expected.)

Others have caught up?????!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Perhaps, but neither the BB nor the Sidekick II can match what the Treo 600 or 650 does.

This is definately good news! I used to have a SKII (got it on the first day it came out and returned it three days later so I could upgrade to T650) and I recall the wait for the SKII was unbearable. There was an article during the october Newsweek that featured the SKII and at the time, the forums at hiptop.com were anxious about the release date of the SKII. Turns out, it was released 1-2 weeks after the discovery of the article! Good good news for the Treo 650!

If there is a pic/caption in Men's Health, and the 25th is the target date, it can't be long before our thirst is quenched.

I can wait another 5-7 days... but man, just release it already!!!!

It's great to be optimistic; however, you can't really compare the rollout of an extremely niche device (SKII) to one that is not - the cross-carriered Treo 6x0 line.

It would be relatively simpler for Danger to do a product launch (they're not even a public company) than P1. There are many legal, marketing, logistical, contractual and distribution related issues that P1 must iron out before a product release/launch. They certainly have the man-power to do it quickly - although there's just more "riding" on the release of the Treo 650 than ever was with the Treo 600. I think carriers are also a bit weary about cannabalization due to the Treo 600's fairly recent popularity (not release) among the mass market. For early adopters, the 600 release may have seemed ages ago, but for the other 90% I would think that the 600 is still fairly "new" to them.

At the same rate, I can also understand how P1 would like to get their product out since many competing players are trying to get their products (i.e. PPC) out before the holiday season begins.

    Decisions..decisions.

Hey, how come no one caught the fact the picture of the Treo 650 in the magazine is an older picture?

See? The numeric keys are not colored like they are on the production units (as we've seen pictures here). The keyboard in the picture above show all white keys, like the one WeeBitObsessed posted awhile back.

Perhaps that is the model they were given to review? I don't know, just guessing.

Actually to be in the November issue...they would have to give them the photo (or unit) 2-3 months ahead of that. So the keypad change could have been a last minute thing...just speculating.

My company launched a product in Mid July and the editorials on it in magazines are just coming out this month.

FYI - The November Traditional Home magazine has the Treo as #70 of their 100 Greatest Hits in the last 15 years. It's focusing on the best of "design, technology, and cultural innovations". The picture is the T600, but pretty good from a swanky design magazine!

If you read the article it also mentions the MPX as seen in MH july issue. And I can buy an MPX where?

I'd say a $650 cellphone (the purported TREO 650 price) qualifies as "niche".

It's way cheaper than the Pocket PC phones in the pipeline, though. There's a thread on the HoFo forum, trying to get people to do a group purchase of the PDA2k for $825!

So does that make the entire Smartphone market niche??
