They told me all of the VPs and other upity-ups in their area have the 650 and they have been told to tell people it would be available (at least to see in the store) after December 1st.

They were telling me that there were some bugs that the execs were running into that they were fixing and that was the cause of the delay, although the reps did not know exactly what the problems were.

Was told this is a standard sprint proceedure. There is even apparatnly a standard form for the execs to fill out on how they like the new phone and what the problems were. This same rep told me that the new Samsung palm phone was a big flop with the execs, with the ones he talked too sending it back to HQ and calling it a "plie of crap."

He did say that everybody loved the 650 except for the glitches that are being worked on.

Also a suprising note, he said that the 600 was one of there biggest sellers in their market and that it has really surprised them, they were not prepared for how many wanted the 600.

Glad they're fixing the bugs. Which trade show were you at? Is there a way we can ask more questions via the Reps?

Did they have a Treo 650 on the floor of the tradeshow? If so, what were your impressions?

One impression I got, although they did not say this specifically, was that, although the 650 would be on display in the stores Dec 1, you might not be able to buy one and leave the store with it that day. They promised to call me as soon as I could get my hands one one, we will see...

well ok in sprint stores, what about sprint phones thru palmOne?
  5.    #5
They did not have a 650, but I am hopefull that they can get me one to play with before the offical release date. I run a large trade association and we are a big Sprint customer. The reps took my card and I have their's. Was not a good place to talk about it all, but I will call them next week and see what I can find out -- if anything.

Thanks for the info midmofan. I will be looking forward to hearing more from you when you talk with them again.

Ummm...truthfully, I have never come on a thread and debunked a poster, but I gotta question this one. I just spent time with Sal Todaro while I was in Vegas, and he hadn't even seen one yet. If you don't know who Sal is, look him up on Sprint's corporate page. In fact, he told me first week of November, right after Palm had launched them, Sprint stores, and Radioshack, would have them. Didn't mean to doubt your story, well yeah, actually I kinda did.

Pardon mentioning the obvious, but aren't YOU the one who said the "TREO 650" was coming to RadioShack LAST WEEK?
  10. #10
No, if you're referring to the post I THINK you are (and with you it's tough to tell) I mentioned that my Verizon repp had told me the launch was the next day. At the end of the post I even pointed out my OWN skepticism on that one. The only other thing you could be referring to was the post I made about an email I recieved stating we would be launching it at the 'shack in "a few weeks". Since I posted that four days ago, I don't see how you got "last week" out of it, but then again I understand so little of the rest of your mindless babbling that it might simply have been something I missed. So, which post are you referring to?

oh boy...drdoom and seldomvisitor you guys need to stop bickering, it's making me not want to read ANY of your posts and i do gain insightful information (hopeful actually) in regards to them so lets just quit it. i think seldomvisitor was referring to how your vzw/sprint boss/rep said launch was the next day... that would have been nice. let's just keep things positive and not cut each other's throat. i like hearing POSITIVE rumors but let's keep in mind there's obviously going to be some people that are going to be wrong since we can't have it both ways. it would make sense that palmone would offer them BEFORE the DEC "rumor" date - if it were to infact compete with launch of the PPC 6601/6600. i look forward to seeing both in Sprint/Radio Shack stores. let's keep it positive

Actually, I posted on another thread that the manager of our Radioshack told me yesterday that he just got word passed down to him that they will have the 650 the first week of November as well.

In fact, when I asked the rep he said nope, don't carry it...then the manager politely stepped in and said that he just got word and hadn't had a chance to even share it with his staff yet. He didn't know the price, but expected to be around $400-450, though this would probably be the contract price with the $100-150 rebate.

Actually look at my post here:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...1&postcount=34

To see my conversation with a PalmOne rep who did not deny the first week of November date after seeing the Treo 650 on the PalmOne software website.

Man, nobody's ever fussed at me for *ahem*..."discussing" things with Seldom before! I feel a tad sheepish now. Anyway, I did read your post Hobbes. In fact, I think if you'll look at my "Another nifty..." thread, you'll see I actually beat you to the punch with that info. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. The entire point I was TRYING to make was that this time last year Seldom was spouting the same negative information, and that he was wrong then, too. The email I posted about the 'shack getting the 650 was directly from our wireless info guru in Ft. Worth, and while he only said "a few weeks", that would jive with November, wouldn't it? As for the post I made about my VZW rep saying it was the next day, I even stated then that I doubted it. He's a great guy, but he told me that at four in the morning as we both left the casino at the New York, New York Hotel after losing WAAAY more money than either of us meant to. Bottom line? I may be getting a tad cranky waiting for this damn phone to come out. And I may be even CRANKIER since I gambled my 650 fund away and have to convince my wife to let me procure it via "other" (read: savings account) means! ;-)

The 650 web post is telling. It's not a mistake, but then this shouldn't be a suprise. The 600's been discounted not to mention the free accessories offer with purchase. The real question is it worth upgrading. Although I've not paid much attention to the 650, I don't see much to get me to switch. My 600 is working good and that in of itself may be reason to stay put. We shall see by no later then November 7.

Well, I talked to myself and told myself I am the Sprint corporate VP of everything and I said "we're working on it and it will be out as soon as the martians land with the part needed to add WiFi".

    So there you have it.

I really just take all of this with a grain of salt and will wait impatiently for the release.

That sentiment, expressed by WAY too many TREO fanatics like yourself, is not something PalmOne wants to hear - or investors therein.

    SV/Hengeem,

This is not the Yahoo Finance board. This is a site for Treo enthusiasts.....please take your Palmone company/stock bashing back to the Yahoo Finance board.
