google announced an sms search today. basically you send a text message to 46645 (GOOGL) and with the message being what you want to search for. then you get a text message back from google with results.

    example:
    send to: 46645
    message: pizza, 33155

and you get results back of info on pizza places at that zip code.

however i tried it on my treo and i get error (19) has occured. anyone know if we can use this service and a work around?

seems like a cool free service...

worked perfectly for me - maybe the comma in your search phrase is messing things up.

    i used

    keyword.zipcode

there has a "period" between keyword and zipcode

    it works for me.

Worked fine for me without the period. I typed in "Starbucks 23451" (without the quotes) and got the responses in a few seconds. Interestingly, it sent two text messages since the response was too long for one. Personally, I think this is a REALLY awesome feature. I used to use Yahoo mobile Yellow Pages to look up phone numbers/find resteraunts, etc. This is WAY faster and easier.

    BTW - I'm on Sprint...

Okay... Not working for me on Sprint...

Wahooka, Are on Sprint? If so, where do I find that option you disabled?

I've tried every example on the Google site and even reset my Treo. I send SMS to other people all the time and I have no problems receiving from them.

    Anyone having a problem today?

works fine on sprint today in nyc. the "." delimiter is for local searches, without it, it searches further away.

You're already paying for it. It's called phone service

i did not mean of paying to my cell phone provider of my monthly charge. I meant i hoped the Google SMS would not be a paid-service soon.

I've sent several messages using the SMS App on my sprint treo 600 and have not gotten a reply to any?

    I don't have treo600sms installed.

    Any ideas?

I've gotten no response. I've even tried just SMSing the word 'help'. It doesn't seem to be working for everyone.
Here's the other thread that's a dupe of this one:

Be sure that you do not have a Signature in your SMS to Google. Only the brief search phrase should be your message and nothing more. Also it only works in the USA currently.

    - I'm in SF Bay Area
    - Signature was never enabled

    No worky for me

not working for me either on ATT. wouldn't surprise me if they've got this type thing blocked, unless you want to pay another $49.99 a month!
