I am thinking of getting a Treo and I am very interested in dataviz.com Beyond Contacts software (http://www.dataviz.com/products/beyo...cts/index.html).

My business computer is a laptop running Windows XP and Outlook 2002. My home computer is a Mac running Panther OS and the standard Apple Address book program.

My goal is to buy a handheld that would enable me to sync between the work PC, home Mac, and whatever kind of handheld I get. I am not sure if anyone has ever attempted such a feat.

Here is what I am thinking....

I am thinking that if I purchase a Treo, I would buy the Beyond Contacts software to be able to sync it up to the work PC running Windows XP and Outlook 2002. Then I am thinking that I could sync the Treo to my home Mac using Missing Sync from Mark Space on the Treo (http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.html). I would then buy Entourage 2004 for my Mac and use that for email, address book, and calendaring (http://www.microsoft.com/mac/product...pid=highlights).

How well do you think this will work? Any idea? There is another program called Pocket Mac and I am not sure how that would be better or different and where it would fit into this scenario.

Any help/advice would greatly be appreciated. I want to know what I am getting into before I get into it, and would like to know how realistic this whole thing is, or maybe I should just keep everything on the Treo for simplicity? Advice would be helpful.

I am not sure if Entourage 2004 could be compatible with outlook 2002 if you tried to use both of those on your Mac/PC.

why don't you just use palm desktop for your PC and missing sync/isync/ical/address book for your mac?

or you can use palm desktop for both?

or you can use life balance (thats what I do -its a killer ap, and it is treo 600 friendly) for your PC and Mac - along with isync/address book on your Mac, or palm desktop/contacts conduit for your PC

The simplest solution is to use the Palm desktop software on both Mac and PC and sync onto your Treo 600. Are you using Outlook 2002 with an Exchange server ? Entourage 2004 is a lot more compatible with Exchange than Entourage X was. But the server would have to be running on either 2000 or 2003. In regards to your data, if you use the Beyond Contacts software, I don't think you would have the ability to transfer any of it's data onto your Mac side unless that program uses the built in data files that Palm has made available on the Treo 600. If that is the case then you could sync most of the data on the Treo onto a Mac either using the Apple iApps or Entourage 2004. But the key is if Beyond Contact uses the built in Treo 600 data files or does it create new ones of it's own. Also a lot of the customized fields that B.C. might use would probably not be compatible with the built in data files. I would call DataViz and ask them about this particular issue and that would help in understanding how much data could actually be sync'd between the two platforms (if you want to use Beyond Contacts).

I personally have used Entourage 2004 AND Apple's iApps with a Treo 600 at different times and it works and I am able to sync my data between my Mac and the Treo 600. But once you bring into the mix a PC platform, the only way you can continue to keep the flow of data is to use any software on the Palm that continues to save it's data into the built-in data files of the Treo 600 and use programs on the PC that access those data files.

One last option is to use a MULTI PLATFORM software solution. I am sure there are a few of them but one that comes to my mind is:

    http://www.nowsoftware.com/

They sell a software package called Now Up to Date which runs on the PC and Mac and has a Palm Conduit. This solution would allow you to sync between the two platforms without any difference of data structure. I have not used their solution for a VERY LONG time and not sure how good it is anymore.

I hope I have made some sense and this info helps.
