OK. I have had PM's requesting this HTML so here is the easiest way.

This is a neat html file for METAR's and TAF's.
Just enter the 4 letter identifier (I.E. KIAH KHOU) and press Submit.
You can enter more that one airport, just leave a space between them.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
From your PC copy the HTML and paste it into Notepad.
Save the file as "Metar.html". (or whatever you want to name it)
From your PC attach the file "Metar.html" to an email and send it to your phone.
Open the email on your phone and then click on the attached file.
While viewing you can hit Menu,Save Page, and save the html to your Treo600 for later use.

    HTML Follows:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

    Loondog,

I don't concur with other people's opinion of your post to use the www.underground.com to set up the graphic and mail the URL to yourself. I found if quite usefull. Next to the html to build the mosaic, I found it the most useful information in this and other threads.

I really don't understand some people's need to attack others that find a better way of accoplishing a task.

Hmm, I don't know why it is not loading for you. I emailed myself your URL and it worked fine for me. It also works fine in Netscape. You might check to see if the URL isn't getting cut off some how. That is all I can think of. Anyone else?

Also, thanks for your comment ddeger

I figured it out. I had to replace my phone and the java app was not on my new phone. The link works now that the jave app is installed.

I had weather underground's PDA site bookmarked as my primary mobile weather site, but didn't like the static radar map they used, and accuweather just takes so damned long to load... Thanks for the links! It's great to have a quick & useful animated map at the click of a button

You can always go to wunderground.com and get to any radar in the USA. There are some adds, but it's really not that bad. These "radar on a Treo" threads tend to loss that thought. All of this fuss it to avoid the wunderground.com adds. If tornadoes are coming at your house, you can put up with some adds :-)

Rather than hacking at the URL, try going to wunderground.com on your desktop. Click Nexrad. Use the user friendly tools to set up the radar (e.g. show last 4 frames, get rid of clutter, put in your home town so it will put an "x" on the screen). After you have the radar the way you want it, right click on the radar image, sellect properties, and e-mail the URL to yourself.

Let wunderground do all the hardwork setting up the radar.

For Metars and TAFS, there's also hz.com -- www.hz.com. If you send a text message to hz@hz.com with the subject metar kdca or taf kdca you'll receive the METAR and TAF information in a few seconds. It's a very fast and easy way to get aviation weather.

You can also send a message with the subject wx zipcode for a quick weather forecast.

HZ.com is free, but you have to register to use it.

BJ2: Thanks for posting these two very useful HTML files. I fly balloons and have used a laptop with a Sprint PCS card to download weather. But I was looking for a more portable solution for more casual use.

Now I just need to get myself a Treo...

I just came accross this and I must say it has promise of being incredible. Follow the instructions in post #8 and give it a try. Problem is it's so small in the main map mode so you can't get much of an idea nationally, but zooming in is pretty cool.
All will believe in Him! The question is when!

Don't forget after you are viewing the mosaic images, you can click on each image and go to a looping regional. Then while viewing the looping regional you can hit "MENU+W" for WIDESCREEN... "MENU+O" for OPTIMIZED.

In the interest of simplicity, I am willing to host the HTML file on my server if people are interested enough in it. It can be accessed at:

    http://www.esotericnet.com/treo/weather.html

And if you would like, I can increase the size of each frame on the main page.

After loading all of the small frames, the total size is ~245k.

The METAR stuff can be accessed at:

    http://www,esotericnet.com/treo/aviation.html

    The size is ~1.4K

FrozenCode- Thanks- that's pretty good. If you're able to increase the size of each frame as suggested, that would be great (Still would want to keep entire US to treo page width, I'd think.... right now, it's about 50-60% I'd guess). I think that would make it much easier to see where the weather is in the US and which frame to click on.

Also, I see that in my computer browser, there's movement over time (ending about 10 minutes ago). But on the treo, it's "stuck" on the initial time (1 hour ago). If it makes a difference, I'm using xiino (too many issues with Blazer right now related to dbcache).
  15. #35
Okay, I will increase the size of each frame and do some testing, as far as the time thing, have you tried clearing the cache?

    EDIT

The size has been increased and scales nicely on a 650, I don't have a 600, so I can't test that for you, sorry. And the times for the images seem to be working fine for me...

Thanks- display looks great on 700P. Images don't move, but that appears to be function of the xiino browser.... they work fine in Blazer.
