ptelnet dies a horrible death (soft resets) my Verizon Treo 600. apparently this does not happen on all T600s from what I gather on the web. I'm wondering if there is something very different about the Verizon version. I really like this application for the serial work that I do with testing communication between GPS, mag card readers, weather stations, etc. does anyone else have a similar experience

I haven't read any success stories from any Treo 600 owner that's tried ptelnet. The only telnet application I know that works is Mocha Telnet.

I have been using this product since my Palm IIIxe (using Mocha PPP) and it has worked flawlessly on 3 other devices, including my Treo 600. I like the fact that it does SSH1 & 2 also.

I just got my Verizon Treo 600 and I'm having the same experience as vmalan. ptelnet soft resets my Treo every time, even after rebuilding the desktop with no third-party applications. Mocha Telnet works fine (but of course it costs $25).

Check out pssh (http://www.sealiesoftware.com/pssh/), which will give you encrypted telnet free.

ssh is ssh and telnet is telnet. They are not the same thing even if they work in a similar way as far as the user interface is concerned.

It does not loook like pssh supports telnet protocol. Does anyone know otherwise?

I agree. people are alway sending people who want to use Telnet to a ssh site or link.

If someone wanted ssh they will ask for ssh. But people want a Telnet app.

Mocha is the best Telnet app I have found for the treo. Ver 2 should meet your needs
