Whats the best web browser for the Treo 600.. I really don't like Blazer..

Webviewer by Reqwireless. It feels the fastest of the browsers I've tried, because it loads the text of a webpage first THEN the images. Faster access to even complex web pages.

If Webviewer.jar is a java file, why can't I open it in windows? I keep getting errors.

Xiino is the quickest Browser I've used, it's optimised for the Treo and you can try it for 30 days for free. http://mytreo.net/mytreo/modules.php..._version&cid=2

Beware of Xinno....the updates are NOT free. I bought Xiino for my Kyocera 7135 and they charge full price for this new update for my Treo. Very disappointing. Should at least offer a discount as other developers do for those of us that already bought their product.

Nelsito, if it's the interface of Blazer you don't like then I can't help you, but if you want to improve its performance then go to www.webxcope.com and use that as a parser. You'll need to customise it to get the most out of it.

Webviewer is fast, but absolutely horrible for reading TC discussion threads. Very hard to delinate between quoted comments and direct comments.

Also, it won't go to www.google.com...always ends up at www.google.ca. Very lame.

At least Blazer keeps the"box" format and will go to www.google.com (!)

I was going to pay for Webviewer, but after just a bit of use, this strikes me as beta-ish.

I've just sent a polite message to the Opera guys asking them to develop their Small Screen Rendering browser for Palm OS.

    Sure hope they will!

I use Palm's WebPro and though it is a bit pricey I like it best of all the ones mentioned in this thread.

    > Also, it won't go to www.google.com...always ends up at www.google.ca. Very lame.

Request http://www.google.com/ncr (which stands for 'No country redirect). WebViewer redirects google.com to google.ca as the middleware servers for WebViewer reside in Canada (eh). google.com/ncr asks Google not to do this magic.

    > I was going to pay for Webviewer, but after just a bit of use, this strikes me as beta-ish.

Please tell me what you perceive to be 'beta-ish'.

While I understand the .ca issue, it still should not work this way; very few know about the /ncr option.

Since you asked for feedback...Here are a few things that seem beta-ish (or not not designed fully/properly (i.e why I would not pay for it (and I buy quite a bit of Palm software):

    - Loses formatting in threads, ex TreoCentral. It is very hard to read/follow a thread.
    - Cannot easily bookmark current page you are on.
    - You need to set to port 8080 to avoid "null" error; it should be the default.
    - Copy and paste cannot be done within a page; only within a text entry field ; this is not very useful at all.
-Does airtime permission check EVERY time...this gets very old. Where is the option to default to yes?
-"Shift-ALT" causes it to crash; this should be caught in QA testing
-Seems to disconnect my Vision session after a small amount of idle time; very odd; no other app does this.
-Can't save the content of a page (like in Blazer; this is very handy)
    - Not 5-way Navigation pad enabled

I like the speed, and it does a decent job with complex pages (like www.cnn.com), but too many "basics" are missing.

I use Reqwireless as my web browser, and it works very well. While there are some things I wish it did differently, that's true of every piece of software I've got. Some of your items I agree with, but a couple comments:

I believe this is a function of the Java runtime, and there's really nothing Reqwireless can do about it. This same thing would happen in any Java program on the Treo trying to connect to the Internet.

I've not noticed this at all.

I use the 5-way (and the Backspace key) almost exclusively to move around and select pages. I can't remember the last time I've had to get out the stylus in Webviewer.

Be sure to install the 'Treo-optimized' version of WebViewer, not the generic/standard edition, see: http://reqwireless.com/download-webviewer.html -- the 5-way support most-certainly works in this Treo-specfic version, though it may not in the generic version (which will also run on a J9-enabled Palm device).

The menu function was not working, so I saw no bookmark menu. Odd.
I reset my device, and now I get the menu and can bookmark.

It may be a requirement of Jav (asking permission to get on net), but it still is annoying.

I am trying to give it another go with the Webviewer to see if it grows on me.

I saw no Treo-optimized on on that page. I had used the one linked from this section:
"For palmOne device owners, we also offer WebViewer 3.5.2 palmOne Edition. Please read the installation instructions carefully before proceeding."

I would be glad to try it if you can give me a better link to it.

As it stands now, it is not 5-way enabled in these sense of other applications....I can scroll up and down on a page, and select links, but cannot get to bottom buttons/select them.

After installing the program and press evaluate, all I get are soft resets......

    Any one can help?

It's most likely a problem with a folder on the SD card. See this this thread for more details on resolving it.

The makers of Xiino are aware of this being the most critical bug and are trying to fix it.
