    Doom3 Hits the Net
Most pirated title in recent memory

If the internet made noise, that giant sucking sound you'd hear today is hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of users downloading Doom 3 from IRC, torrent trackers, and p2p outlets, notes the BBC. The eagerly awaited blockbuster game is coming in around 1.7 gigs, and is one of the most heavily pirated applications in recent memory. With the increase in broadband connections, many users without the discipline to wait for this week's retail release are succumbing to their less ethical impulses.

According to many pundits, the sales of Doom 3 are going like gangbusters AND the sales of new hardware so the Doom-buyers can play it are going like gangbusters, too.

There was a study that noted that the average age of a Doom-like game player is mid-40s or so, I think I remember.

    I'm 50+; I'm interested in getting Doom 3.

Think I have to upgrade my 600MHz Pentium III first, though...

[and just before visiting TreoCentral and reading this thread, I went to http://www.doom3.com and started up the Flash stuff. My almost-6 year old went running into the other room as soon as she heard the first scream...gonna have to train her first, too, methinks! Or get headphones]

Thanks!! I feel better now! In two years your 6 year old will be able to kick your **** in any game you choose.

I'm 30. Didn't play too much of Doom (the original) but my dad played until he could beat the whole thing in one sitting. I must admit that i have not been much of a gamer though. I don't know if he's in line to buy Doom 3.

I was never into those fast paced FPS games, only slow simulated ones like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. But Doom3 looks awesome, so I might actually pick that up and give it a try.

I guess I need to upgrade my video card. Radeon 9000 64mb isnt going to cut it.

Grew up playing all of the Doom series. I have been playing this game for the last few days and it's been pretty fun. Very nice detail and graphics involved. Not much of a horror game fan, but this one gets a thumbs up for overall appearance.
