What the hell is mms for ? And what is the differece between that and the mail program, or the sms program for that matter?

MMS messages are those which contain some sort media with them such as a voice clip or a video clip.

    SMS messages are text only.

E-mail messages are not limitted in size, like the other two, and can support attachments.

Ok, Gotcha, so I might as well use email for everything.

Also, can you shoot video with the treo 600, or just pictures?

As broberob mentioned yes it does via third party applications.

You'll need to install either "Movierec" or "Live" to record video with the Treo 600.

E-mail is, well everyone knows what e-mail is. It can be set to check every 15 minutes or on demand. It is widely used, convinient, and can be used with company exchange services if available, but requries a data access plan, and an exchange server with full time push service if you want it to be automatically instant (like on the RIM Blackberry).

SMS is short messaging service, an instant 160 character message that is sent from cell phone to cell phone. It's heavily used, with perhaps 300 million SMS messages flying across North American everyday. It's quiet, it's fast (the receiver receives the message in less than 10 seconds after the sender sends it, and they don't have to check their mailbox... it's automatically delivered and alerted), and you don't need an extra plan to do this.

MMS, multimedia messaging service, is an extension of SMS, allowing slightly larger sizes to accomodate pictures, video, and sound. It is instant like SMS but usually requires a mobile internet plan or a data access plan.
