    Anybody checked it out yet?

Yeah I just took the plunge (got backups and we waited long enough!). I used the Mac updater which interestingly is hosted on the PalmOne website and the Windows version is on the T-Mobile website.

So far so good .. but I do have one question for those that know where to find things in the file structure.

    Q. I had to get some room back for the install so after performing a backup to my SD card using backup buddy, I did a hard reset and erased all. I then successfully installed the Update and all went very well. I then gave the phone a quick run before restoring everything and I noticed that when I connected to the wireless mode it no longer had that ugly T-Mobile graphic and instead had a funky Treo graphic.

Sorry this is long but here is the real question ... after I restored everything from backup buddy I once again have that ugly T-Mobile connecting graphic. So is there a way or a file to delete to get back that nice Treo wireless mode connecting/disconnecting graphic?

    Any guidance will be appreciated.

Only app I am having trouble with from restore is WorldMate. It causes a soft reset each time I try to launch it so I will try a delete and reinstall of that app.

    OK I am done now.

I am in the middle of doing the upgrade and it's not looking good. The T600 seems to be in a loop of resetting itself. It gets as far as doing the network search and then resets itself. I know I saw another post about this so I guess I try to find it and see if they found a resolution. I'll post back what I find.

If you are getting the reset loop, you didn't perform a hard reset before doing the update! Palm One doesn't recommend hard restting anymore, but it should still be done, as it removes prc files that run as background processes. These absolutely can not be running while the rom image is being updated! Very, very bad things could happen to your Treo.

My question with the T-Mobile update, does MMS work any better?

i would like to know what is different, but I gonna stay with the hacked international version of a couple of months ago.

    It is working for me.

I tried a hard reset - no go. The new updater will not install - says it is incompatible because I have installed the ROW upgrade. Guess I'm f--ked.
    Thanks

I found another thread where they said they created a temp profile and did the update using that. I did this also but after I tapped Reset and after the T600 restarted I got a message about plugging in the Charger. My battery was not low (> 90% remaining). On that screen I had an OK and Cancel button. I tapped the Cancel button, the screen turned completely white and sat there until it was time for the screen to turn off which it did. Now I'm not sure what to do since my charger is at home and the update instructions are to leave the hot synch cable plugged in during the update process.

Here's the link and verbiage of the T-Mobile Update that you download from T-Mobile's website from PC's web browser. Anyone that has already performed the upgrade, could you please post your comments here in reference to the fixes as noted below from T-Mobile's website?????

Get more from your Treo 600

T-Mobile announces important news for our Treo 600 customers. A downloadable software upgrade has been developed to provide the best performance and reliability for your device.

Please note: the download must be made from our Web site to the computer you synchronize with your Treo 600. Your Treo will receive the necessary upgrade via the software on your computer.

The upgrade will back up all the data on your Treo, install the improved software, then re-install all the data it backed up. You will not have to adjust any settings or re-input information.
Key improvements enabled by this update include:

    * Improved data connectivity to browse the Web, send and retrieve e-mail and utilize other applications
    * Improved appearance of Web pages and graphics in the browser
    * Updated settings for roaming on international networks
    * A number of additional reliability and performance enhancements

As our thanks for taking the time to perform the upgrade, you will have access to a free Handmark Backgammon game to use on your Treo 600.

Before I take the plunge... anybody notice if this update locks the phone to T-Mobile?

I bought mine during the T-Mobile upgrade period and received the unbranded international version which is unlocked. I don't want to end up with a locked phone if I install this FW update. Just a precaution....

Well, I decided to futz around with this a bit more and here is what I have found. I pressed the Home key (remember the screen was completely white) and what I thought was a locked up T600 wasn't. I canceled the upgrade and checked the battery level. It is at 84% so I suspect the update will not continue if it detects the battery is below a certain level. I plan to run home and get the charger before trying again (I forgot that you can plug the charger into the hot synch cable so this should take care of the requirement to have the hot synch cable connected).

I highly recommend doing the upgrade from a "clean" user since it appears that many third party apps cause problems.

It will not install if you have ROW installed.... I learned the hard way. Really would like to test the "performance enhancements"!

Tool over to mytreo.net and check out the instructions for using backtoroots.prc

I had to use that to go from ROW to CNG
Apparently the ROW update is later than the carrier updates even though they weren't released in that order.

What exactly makes a T600 "branded"? I bought mine from Busfish (it was referred to as "T-Mobile Handspring Treo 600") with a new plan. There is no external T-Mobile logo, the wireless startup screen says Handspring and the software is Treo600-1.08-INT. So is this phone "unbranded international version" also?

Yes... I reverted back to the CROW version a while ago using the mytreo.net backtoroots.prc method. Just make sure to write down your phone info before your revert. Write down your serial number, hardware version, etc. They get blanked by backtoroots.prc.

The good news was that I was pretty easily able to re-apply CROW after that. (Of course, then I went ahead the next day and re-upgraded to ROW.) My little treo must be quite confused by now.

I think you will have to use Tokenwriter to change ROW to CNG before you do the upgrade if you have already done the CROW upgrade.

I'd like to know if anyone notices any performance differences from the CROW update. Unless there are significant improvements in the T-Mo upgrade, I plan to stick with the one I did to 1.12.

I note that the PalmOne web site sayw that you only need to do the upgrade if you are below 1.12.

Mine is the same as yours. No logos or anything TMO related, same software version. I wasn't sure if there was such a thing as branded TMO phones, but I wanted to be sure mine didn't suddenly become one after the update. Has anyone who already did the update tried another carrier's SIM yet?

O.K., I am running the Siam updater now ontop of ROW. So far so good.
After this completes, I will try to install the TMO update and will report.

    Here is what I did:
    - Backup my Treo to SD
    - Hard Reset
    - Moved siam_int_updater_fw_v_2_08.prc to my SD card
    - Started siam_int_updater_fw_v_2_08.prc

It is now ~50% into the up(down)grade!

Me too. The hacked INT is working fine. I would love to know what's so different between the two. Guess we'll all find out soon.
