Consider yourself lucky. When I needed a repalcement a few weeks ago there was 'no way' Verizon said they would repalce it with a 650.

I had the same problem with my 600. It started last friday morning. I took it in and they ordered me another refurb, which I am supposed to pick up tommorrow. Well, I got fed up with it about 730 this morning and wrote an email to the CEO of Sprint, seeing as how it would be my sixth replacement 600, tenth replacement of treos overall, including my 4 300s. A very nice lady called me back around 11 this morning. Long story short, my new 650 should be here tommorrow or thursday. I was very polite, explained my problems without ranting or raving. But I did emphasize that it was becoming a hassle for me and my business, as I have had to leave early a number of days in order to take care of these issues.

Just wondering if Anyone knows what causes the "blobs" to appear? Are we pressing too hard on the screen?

Sprint tech guy says it comes from too much pressure on that spot on the screen. Sometimes you might have your keys or loose change in the same pocket as your Treo that press on the screen to cause the damage. That same tech guy says he always carried his Treo in a case hooked to his belt and whenever he got into his car, the seatbelt buckle would press down on his screen without him realizing it. I don't know how much truth there is to this but it sound reasonable considering the low quality of the screens to begin with.

I just noticed an orange dot on the screen of my Treo 600. In the phone app it is on the * key. I have heard of lines and blue screens, etc. but I have never heard of orange dots. Any ideas?

Your screen's starting to go bad; it'll slowly get worse. Search and you'll find several threads on the subject.

Firstly I appologize if this topic has already been posted elsewhere on the forum. I did a search and couldn't find anything relevent.

I am looking to buy a used Treo (probably 600 because of the cost) and have noticed a couple for sale on ebay that are in perfect condition apart from small orange spots on the screen. I suspect that this is a reasonablly common problem and my question is, how easy is this to repair. I have also seen people selling replacement lcd screens, is this something that can be simply swapped and will solve the problem?

Or am I best to just avoid any Treo with this kind of problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Miles.

to answer your question, I would not buy a T600 with an "Orange" spot on the screen, I've had a couple replaced for that (and many others for others things). Th spot would most likely grow in time.

Thanks both, apologizes for not seeing the original thread. I think I will steer clear after all!!

I was a victim of the growing orange blob. Kind of pretty if it wasn't so annoying.

well I jinxed myself..........I now have the growing orange splotch. Dammit these pieces of shxt This was my 10 T600 replacement and I finally said "You win" - the speakerphone sucks, sound quality sucks, screens sux. Now it's been like 9 months, I'll call and raise hell but will they do anything?

I never had one of the orange spots until I stepped on the treo. The belt clip on my case put pressure on the screen in that exact spot. I have always babied my 600s (yes, plural, I am on no. 5). They are caused from stress (this has happened to me twice). Keep it in a good case, or a loose pocket, and you should be ok. Just don't buy one already like that. However, if you have Tmobile, for $70 they will exchange it even if you smashed it with a hammer. If you can find one real cheap, you can send it in to them, pay the $70 and get anew phone.
<c>Searching for happiness. 33 pdas later I find the GSM Treo 600. Now Ebayers love my pdas. I love my Treo...

Hmmm... something seems wrong here. I had two Visor Deluxe, one Visor Platinum, one Visor Prism, one Handspring Treo 270, and one Treo 600. I had the first Deluxe replaced due to relatively minor cracking around the springboard slot. I never have had to replace any of the other Handspring/Palm products. My 600 speakphone was great, the sound quality was fine, the screen was fine...

I also always use screen protectors, keep my pdas (which have cost me several hundreds of dollars) in quality cases, and treat them like .... pdas that cost several hundred dollars.

I also have used them every day, used them as my primary phone since visor phone days, brought them to the Carribean, Mexico, and Ireland, and been pleased with the backup flashlight capability of the recent treos.

I use screen protectors and/or cases too. I also had other Palm products. So to address your first sentence, nothing is wrong here except a product with an unusually high failure rate.

I have had my treo 650 for 8 months now and a light purple discoloration seems to be taking over the screen like a fungus. Has anyone had this problem? I know alot of 600s have been affected by orange or yellow spots but not purple on the 650s. It's still under warranty, so I'm gonna return it and get a new one.

Can you snapshot a picture of it before you return it? Just interested to see how it looks like.
