Cingular just jumped into a data plan that competes with T-Mo and Sprint. $19.95 for unlimited internet and SMS messages. Caused me to leave Sprint yesterday with my other 3 phones also.

Nice! I'm a TMO customer, but it's nice to know there's another GSM carrier with similar prices now in case I ever want to switch. Since I'm using the (cheaper) T-Zones plan though, it won't matter for awhile.

There was a whole thread about his before the crash.

Cingular actually introduced two new data plans.
MEdia Basics is $7.99 / month, includes:
    1MB Wix
    50 MMS
    250 SMS

MEdia Works is $19.99 / month, includes
    Unlmited Wix
    200 MMS
    1500 MMS

Cingular's website states that this rate is only available to users with certain phones. Treo 600 is not listed.

Cingular doesn't (retail) sell the TREO 600 so that could be why it's not listed where you checked. They probably would be happy to sell you any service plan they offer regardless the phone.

    =====

    Editted to add:

Note - I just revisited the Cingular page and it explicitly says "Offer good only for listed phones" of which the TREO is not one, so I take the above back.

WHY TREO is not one of the listed phones would be interesting to find out...

I have the new data plan with Cingular. They did not ask me which phone I am using, but my records would show that it is a Treo600. Once I was signed up, they asked me to turn wireless off (another indication the rep knew which phone I have) for 10 minutes. I can see no change in the phones settings so I'm not sure what was sent. It has been working very well and I am much more at ease not having to track my data use.

For Cingular you can try using photo.mycingular.com as the smtp server.

photo.mycingular.com definately works for a SMTP server on Cingular.

How did you find out about the server? In other words, I'm wondering if this is there on purpose or it just happens to work until they figure out it's there and shut it down.

BTW: I commented in another thread about the data plan. They actually stopped offering it as an option end of April. Another Cingular rep responded to me that he thought it would be available until the end of June.

I added mine 2 days ago and it is definately nice... unlimited minutes, 1500 SMS and 200 MMS.

Does anyone know if this Cingular unlimited plan for $19.95 is GPRS? The website calls it wireless internet express??

I just call Cingular and added it to my Treo 600 (GSM) for $19.99. I went on-line and check my account and it's there. Media-works for $19.99.

    Please comment on the below:

Sorry it took me FOREVER to get back to you -- I did confirm the info. with
my manager and yup, those two packages are the ones available (the others we
originally spoke about are for regular phones only). If you wanted to add a
text messaging or multi-media package to your 5MB (29.99) or Unlimited
Internet (39.99) Treo 600 packages, those are options. . sorry about the
less then great pricing/value news! I hope you don't discover a more
competitive offer elsewhere! (And if you do, that's life. . ). .

The one thing I was told is that those internet usage packages are
especially designed for the Treo (as far as expanded browsing capabilities
are concerned.) Let me know if there is anything else I can help you out
    with! :-)

Hi Erika! Still strongly considering the Treo on Cingular. I'm still
confused. What is new and improved? can you find out, otherwise it
sounds like a terrible deal going from a package of everything at 19.95
up to 39.95 not including the other "stuff"

    thanks again, cya!

Yup, Cingular just came out with those packages specifically for the
    Treo
and replaced the "Media bundles" I previously showed you with the new
    ones
-- if you do desire extra Text Messaging and Multi-Media usage
    packages, you
can add those additionally. And of course those are available on a pay
    per
use rate as well if you like (pay per use is automatically included on
    anyone's voice packages).

I hope this change is to your liking! I guess they wanted to design an
internet package that would specifically accommodate the Treo's
    browsing
capabilities and supposedly these do (new & improved)!

I'll be here if you need me and yeah, blah weather today huh. . oh
    well

    Best,
    Erika

internet.. 19.95, I guess you are telling me the Treo is a different
"internet" charge? thanks Erika.. the weather? Too blah

    Greetings Mr. Gross!

Cingular Wireless has just come out with 2 new PDA connect packages
specifically for the Treo - these would be in addition to the monthly
"voice" plan (ex. 29.00 a month for x minutes)

    Those packages are as follows:

    Monthly Rate

    $29.99

    $39.99

    Included MB

    5MB

    Unlimited

    Overage Rate/KB

    $ 0.01

I got quoted the 39.95/39.99 as well for a B2B (business plan) for the unlimited internet usage only. I got quoted this when I mentioned I might use my phone to download email from the laptop.

When I signed up for service, I asked if the Meida works package (unlimited wireless internet package, 1500 SMS messages & 200 MMS messages a month) was still available. They said they could still write it.

Either way, I felt like I won. I was looking for an unlimited package and the 74.99 was TOO high.

My suggestion is ask again, or if in Orlando, FL area I can give you the rep that wrote my package.

Oh yeah, and the guy knew I was using a Treo 600 because I was sitting in front of him as he was giving me a new SIM card.

The Palm web site didn't allow me to transfer my number (a gripe that I saw on this board about that site).

They also wrote activation for $18.

My suggestion, buy the phone from Palm and go visit a store to get it activated. Depending on what they tell you, you might have to go to another store. The deals are out there.

Ok, I just purchased the 19.99 unlimited plan with Cingular and it doesnt seem to work on my phone (no triangle). I have inserted other people's sims into my phone and the triangle would automatically appear.

Is there some setting I need to change in order to use the GPRS?

    any help appreciated,

    Brad

Sounds like they did not properly set it up on your account. No surprise here! It took me 3 support phone calls for them to get it right. You did power cycle you phone though right? I would call them back and have them double check the account settings.
