great software, but I am having a problem viewing my files when I download them to my computer or transfer them via an SD card.

I'm searched the boards and I've seen a few other people having the same problems, but no solution.

The extension on the file is a .jpg but when I try to open them on the computer it is not recognized. I've tried changing the extension (.gif, .bmp, etc.) and tried numerous applications (photoshop and other picture viewers).

I think it may be a combination of the Qset compression ration. I have a couple important pictures that I would like to be able to view. Any suggestions?

i dont know but he left me hanging on a nice thin thread.

jpeg fixers, image header editors, graphic programs... not one i could get my hands on will open the pictures. they can be viewed on the phone fine, but not once they leave it.

i reallllly dont want to lose these pictures..

right now a file recovery company is seeing waht they can do.. im sure it would be quite costly too... if they can even do it.

well i have extremely disappointing news. well such was the c ase for me.. you probably wont care. nor will the author of this program.

i took pictures on a once in a lifetime trip with my friends, and they were very important to me. irreplaceable as im sure you know all pictures are. the format they were captured as in the PickEm program can be displayed on the phone no problem.. but not anything else. cant be taken off, converted, or even recovered into a viewable image. I have given up hope that i will be able to share them with my friends, and have now just accepted this loss (zero pictures taken during our trip.) i know it was my own fault for forgetting my perfectly capable and reliable digital camera.. btu i hoped the pickem program would sufice and didnt even bother purchasing a disposable camera.

your complete disappearance is just bad business practice.. especially when you're hanging your otherwise loyal customers out to dry. Sorry to say but after this i will be sure to avoid any program made by this author. and im especially thankful this program didnt get past the beta stages.. for fear peopel would pay for it and be stuck in situation like my own.

p.s. does anyone know anything about the .pbmp (wireless bitmap) format? note this isnt the wbmp you see everywhere. no websites pop up on google... and recovering companies know nothing.

did you pay for this program? no. will you ever... no. it was always free. YOU decided to take pictures of your "once in a lifetime trip" on a beta program. if you had read this thread fully, you would have known about these issues, they have been posted on here for MONTHS. you have no one to blame but yourself. quit your whining.

Well, for $4.99 he could have bought a dummy disposable camera with Kodak film in it.... (rolling eyes)

The pictures can be taken off. I've done it hundreds of times. I'm using a Treo 650 now, so I have to do this from memory, but here goes:
    - take pics w Pickem
    - Open standard Treo 600 camera program
    - find Pickem images
    - copy to SD Card (this converts them to jpeg)
    - transfer pictures off of card.

I don't think it was more complicated than that to get the pictures off.

Alternatively, use Pickem to email each one to yourself.
If your service providers charges you too much to email them over the air, set up "reverse DUN" to connect the Treo to the 'net via your home computer (instructions somewhere on this board: search), then email them to yourself.
When you email out of Pickem, the software converts the images to JPEG.

As long as you don't delete the images, then they're not lost.

Oh a few more IMPORTANT things!!

    - watch what you name the images when you copy them to the SD Card. The standard Treo 600 app will ALWAYS overwrite on a name collision.
    - Make sure that there is no way there can be a name collision before you start copying. I used to rename each picture to "TreoPicYearMoDayHrMinSec" e.g. TreoPic20050423184328. using the time in the name reduces the liklihood of a collision.
    - NEVER use the 'move' command - only 'copy'. delete off the Treo once the JPEGs are safely on your computer.

to everyone: yes i know i could have bought a disposable camera. i was supposed to bring my digicam but forgot it home; yes my mistake. i also assumed my treo could handle the task. albeit not high resolution, it was better than nothing and/or wasting food money for disposable camera (do you know how college life is?). i also should have used the built in app but somehow it slipped my mind.. especially since pickem seemed to funcition fine- even when viewing the captured photos.

even tho these are all my own mistakes.. the authors disappearance would eak me even if a personal loss wasnt involved. all my posts were IMHO.

Conrad.. THANK YOU x 500 . you brought up an approach i have not tried. the Copy to SD, Copy, and Move options put the file into the pbmp format i wrote about earlier. I will definitely try mailing the pictures using reverse DUN.

takmsdsm.. ur reply was hardly helpful and not at all appreciated. in the future i suggest you dont waste your own time writing negative nonconstructive replies like that. note if that was said to my face after asking nicely for help... id be less than happy with you. my physical response to it would make you less than happy as well

Yeah. A lot of people get defensive when ignorance gets pointed out... *shrug*

Keep threatening internet boy. Suggestion noted and ignored.

I just pointed out that you didnt pay for the program NOR would you ever, yet you were bashing his work when he's not here to defend himself. It plain to see the program is a beta (which in case you didnt know, are releases of a program to fix any problems that come to light), and that I believe the arthor had to move on with his life and he wrote this program for the treo community for NO PAY whatsoever. You didnt pay for it, as long as it didnt totally mess up your treo, you have no right to complain. Any smart user reads reviews and information about the software they put on their devices. MANY people have used his program including myself problem free.

Its users like you that cause users and contributors like Shadowmite to pack up and go.

if that doesn't work you can try using Snap or other screenshot programs to copy the picture while its displayed on your Treo's screen. The max resolutiong would be 320x320 but its something..

ill respond one last time... no i didnt threaten you or anyone else. yes you provided no useful information whatsoever. and finally.. who here had a CHANCE to pay for this program? it never left beta stage. programs that deserve my money get it. programs that dont work usually require some help from its users.. which is my case. no need to get nasty about it

Not only that, it was a beta that expired, and people patched around the expiry.

I'm sorry Skel924, I'm a little confused by how you got the .pbmp files. You said: "the Copy to SD, Copy, and Move options put the file into the pbmp format i wrote about earlier." What did you use to copy the file to the SD Card? Was it FileZ or something like that? If so that would explain the .pbmp files. If you used the PalmOne Camera app (not Pickem) then it ought to convert the file to jpg. Then there's no need for the subsequent "Copy, and Move" you mentioned. The pictures taken by Pickem ought to just show up in the PalmOne Camera app. I don't know what happens if the pictures in Pickem are under a category that doesn't exist in the Camera app, but I assume they're both under "unfiled". The Pickem pictures should just be listed under the camera app. Then do the renaming in the camera app as I described, and then the copy to SD card, again, in the camera app - not FileZ or similar.
