Anyone notice problems with sending SMS to addresses (mobile phone numbers) in their contacts database that have dashes or parens?

If I send an SMS that has a contact's mobile number of "4155551212" it gets there. However, these don't seem to work:
"415-555-1212"
"415/555-1212"
"(415) 555-1212"

etc.

Anyone else have similar results? BTW: I'm not sure when I'm sending to a Sprint SMS user. The destinations that I've tried don't work (using any non-numeric character) when I'm sending to Cingular or AT&T.

Thanks,
