    > For the Treo specific version, it may be possible to record somewhere in a Preferences entry that the trial period has already expired--so even if a user reinstalled the demo, the trial would remain expired.

That's not possible for Java applications as they don't have access to secondary storage where an "expired" flag would need to exist. Snappermail is a native PalmOS app that doesn't have this limitation.

Well, I still think it's a lousy method. How am I supposed to trial this with only 10 webpages per day? Deleted it today.

Still think Webviewer is the fastest browser just compared it with Webpro 3.5 with proxy. I wish Treocentral would do a legit review or comparison of all available browsers, that way we can see the plus and minuses. For those who haven't tried Webviewer 3.5.2 prc , heres the free 10 day trial with detailed instructions on how to install java and webviewer. check it out!

    The price of Java 5.99
Webviewer is 29.99 one time for unlimited use of thier servers. Yes, its pricey but the treo600 version is the most advanced and has the most features. For those who dont want to pay that much you can prepay 9.99 for a 3 month key sort of like a subsciption. I think paying 29.99 for a lifetime key is better but that depends on your budget. thiers a free trial

For those of you who have hotmail accounts, Reqwireless has announced the general availability of a new version of HotViewer specifically tailored for select palmOne devices.

HotViewer is a rich HotmailŪ client for Java-enabled mobile phones, simpler to configure than EmailViewer but offering the same full support for HTML-based email, images, attachments and more. HotViewer will address the needs of Hotmail subscribers who demand a fast, graphical, convenient, Hotmail experience while on the go.

We're confident that HotViewer 2.0.1 now provides the best HotmailŪ experience for palmOne devices, considering the technical constraints imposed by the IBM J9 Java runtime on that device.

I downloaded Xiino and installed it today. Runs much faster and only took about 500k. Also supports most of the 5way dial.

Reqwireless' claims that you can retain your 3.5 bookmarks and settings when you hotsync 4.0 (the *.prc) over it. But in fact, it won't hotsync over 3.5 on my Treo 600. When I do succeed in copying 4.0 over 3.5 from my SD card, I get a couple of error messages ("database protected in CopyItem VFSTaInternal...). That still copies 4.0 over 3.5, but I lose my bookmarks. I have a backup copy of 3.5 that I can copy back over (and still has my bookmarks and settings), but it's a pain to exchange the key every time I do this. I posted a question to Reqwireless support a few days ago, but still have not received a reply.

    Anyone have a solution?

For those wondering, Web Viewer works great with Treo 650 although the https issue has been improved but not fully solved. I took the plunge and bought it and even though it has minor quirks it was worth it.

This issue of good web browsers hasn't had much going on for several months. Has there been any comparisons done on the various choices that work with the treo650? I'd love to know what the choices are and what people think of them.

I'm happy with "free." Blazer I use with gritted teeth for anything secure - banking, PayPal, etc. because I don't like the idea of my sensitive info going through a proxy owned by someone who could easily record that data. I use WebPro 3.5 (hacked) for any graphic-laden stuff.

Yeah, the speed gains from WV's proxy seem neato, but not worth the $$ and having to install still yet more ****e on my already unstable Treo 600. Also, I just can't get over how the layout looks on the screen, like I'm not getting enough info at once.

Did I mention I like "free?"

I've been using WebViewer for about a year. I got it initially to work on my Nokia cell phone as it was the only web browser that would let you hit REAL web sites on a little cell phone. My license carried over to my Treo when I got it.
I use Xiino and WebViewer. Those are your only good 3rd party choices for Treo.
I'm really hopeing Opera makes a Palm OS version someday, I understand Opera is really good, but alas no Treo support yet.

    Taylorh,
Why both xiino and Webviewer? What can't one do that the other can and vice versa. Can you not get away with having just one?
