I'm having an issue with my new GSM/T-Mobile Treo 600. Using the handset, the audio is fine, but when I use an aftermarket headset, I get an electronic "buzz" sound coupling in. It sounds like RF coupling, and is worse when you move the headset cord around the antenna. I've tried 3 different aftermarket headsets, and they all do it. The standard Treo "in-line-mic" headset works, but gives you a low signal level, and the sounds a little muffled on the incoming. I could get by with it, but was hoping to use my new Shure noise-cancelling headset, or at least a boom mic.

Does anyone know what causes this? Strangly, all my aftermarket headsets have shielded-style cables, while the standard Treo headset is just a two-wire, unshielded cord.

On a seperate topic, I'm amused that T-Mobile is advertising they will "soon" have Treo 600's. Their main factory store in downtown San Francisco has had them for a week and a half - and still has 60 in stock. This does not seem to be some kind of clandestine pre-release offering, as there is a big poster and a silver/T-Mobile Treo 600 in their front window. Three blocks off Market St, (415) 788-2670, ask for Keely (he says they will ship).

their price is $499, and they are offering the $100 credit to previous Treo owners.

My T-Mobile Treo 600 has much better audio quality than my Sprint Treo 600 had... and it doesn't mysteriously "miss" incoming calls all the time, like the Sprint unit did. I also got a slightly better overall 2-phone/pooled service plan, despite having to pay $20/mo for unlimited data. The in-store service is light-years ahead of Sprint! (both main factory stores in downtown SF).

A little more testing -- I'm finding that the only headset that doesn't produce an "RF coupling humm (buzz)", is the one that comes with the Treo. But *that* one produces fuzzy, sometimes unintelligible sound, both incoming and outgoing. I just called the T-Mobile store that I purchased the Treo from, they said I sounded fuzzy, and had trouble hearing me. As soon as I go on handset, everything is fine.

    Steve,

I too get a very random "buzz" sound, but this comes from my mic so the person I am calling is who hears it.

It started about a week ago, and basically rendered my T600 useless for a short time.

However, I found that once I had left my house and moved to another tower location the buzz went away. I called Cingular to report this to them. They said they would initilize the tower near me (ok how cool is that? I'm special!) and that seemed to do the trick. I no longer have complaints from people I'm calling.
