I have a Treo 300 and am considering upgrade to 600, but fear I will lose functionality of one of my critical uses for the Treo.

Now that the 600 has penetrated the marketplace, can anyone tell me if any of the following does NOT work with the Treo 600?

    1) I can currently visit mapquest with Xiino, download the actual IMAGE (not the proxy'd image, the real large one), it will download to the Treo where I can view it with Acid Image to see the detail and zoom in etc. Any means of doing this with the Treo 600? (Works well with Ebay too, to see detail of items)

    2) (important) PalmVNC work well?

    3) (important) Telnet/SSH apps like Mocha work well?

    4) (important) I have a web page where I have lots of PDB and PRC files, I can currently visit my page, click a file, and Xiino INSTALLS IT on the spot for me. Is there ANY solution for the 600 that this will work for? For example, maybe I have a collection of Gameboy Roms, I can click and install with Treo 300 through Vision and Xiino by visiting my web page and clicking one.

    5) Liberty Gameboy Emulator (OK, not so important, but curious)

    6) Snappermail (I see a lot of people talking about it, this seems fine)

I can't believe I am considering making this expensive jump as crappy as Sprint's support has been.. but alas I am indeed considering it.

    Thanks all...

PalmVNC works as well on my 600 as it did on my 300. Haven't tried any of the others, although I didn't much like SnapperMail, so I use the Handspring Mail v.1.02beta program. As I recall, SnapperMail didn't let me select a different smtp user name and server address from the incoming server. Handspring mail works very well for me.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES, in return I'll tip you all off to a great idea that I have been using PalmVNC for...

I have several computers in my house on my cable modem. I can remote control each one, and EACH ONE HAS A WEB CAM ON IT. Even though technically I don't do a web conference, I can start Netmeeting on the remotely contolled computer and this starts the video in the Netmeeting window. This allows me to have LIVE STREAMING VIDEO TO MY TREO (well, about 1 frame per second anyway). This let's me watch live streaming video of my house when I am away for example. I could also point it out the window to see the weather if I wished. It's comical to be sitting in line somewhere, stream the video from your living room and watch the cat walk by your camera... maybe use it to spy on your kids?

    :-)

NOTE: This really makes PalmVNC work hard, and appears to really nail the bandwith. I don't recommend doing this for very long because I hear rumors about hitting bandwidth threshhold triggers in Sprint's network and they can kick you off or charge you extra.. you've been warned. I do this for like 20 - 30 seconds tops and haven't heard anything from Sprint, been doing it for months. But, it looks like it streams a lot of bandwidth when I watch my traffic meter on my home network, like a large download.

have been happy with my Sprint Service, In fact I just purchasced a Treo 600. Now this is all based on the internal Browser that came with it. The only question that I can answer is #4. Here goes, I can download PRC, PDB, and MIDI files from any webpage. The MIDI files get installed as ringers. The PRC & PDB files get installed onto the palm. I can also recieve PRC, PDB, and MIDI files as atachements in my e-mail (I am using Agendus PRO's e-mail app)

    mk3cn4,

Your biggest upgrading problem is the Xiino, it does not run on Treo 600 and Xiino has no plan to develop a new version for OS 5.

I too am too tighten to Xiino. Without Xiino, I still need a laptop to go some websites and do othere things, then Treo 600 does not have BT for easy laptop connection. Therefore, I returned the Treo 600 and stayed with my Treo 300.

GOOD NEWs, XINO FOR OS 5 IS OUT FOR THE T600! (no 5 way nav support though, OR SSL?).

    check the link: http://www.mobirus.com/eng/products/index.html

it seems it was purchased by a new company, or the old company changed names.

I just downloaded Mocha Telnet the other day for my T600, and it works phenominally! I have been using it to log in to the RedHat server on my college campus and have been, to quote my grandmother, tickled pink! No resets or other issues to speak of. Just make sure to use version 3.0, as 4.0 uses os5, but requires high resolution.

How do you play game boy roms on your treo?
  10. #10
I dont know about a Game Boy emulator that works, but there are Game Gear and NES emulators that do. You can get them at www.kalemsoft.com

Does anyone know if you can upgrade previous Xiino for free? My old code doesn't work and I can't find anything on the site about it.

Apart from Channels, is it actually better than Blazer? At least Blazer is in ROM and doesn't use precious RAM.

Handspring Mail is okay. I tried it for a while, but found that I prefer SnapperMail (Support for encoding of attachments through some firewalls works better in SnapperMail. I had problems with sending/receiving some attachments using Handsprint Mail).

I have no problem specifying a different server and/or user name for SMTP with SnapperMail. I can't reproduce the problem you mentioned. Perhaps you were using an older/unregistered version? Snappermail works great for me. (Using v1.9.2.01 Premier Registered)

For whoever asked about the gameboy emulator in a previous message in this thread, I use a program that has been out for the Palm for a while now called Liberty. The Treo 300 isn't quite fast enough to play most of the games, but some of the strategy or slower-paced games it works reasonably well if you overclock the Treo. WHILE OVERCLOCKED, THE OTHER NORMAL TREO FUNCTIONS SEEM TO NOT WORK.

Someone who is using XIINO for Treo 600, can you please try to tap and hold an Image in the browser and see if you get a prompt to "download image"? Also, can the image then be downloaded and/or viewed by an image viewer, and is it the "real" detailed large image that would have been displayed to a normal PC user? (For example, if you download a Map from Mapquest, does all the detail remain?)

    Thanks...

Fun Cam 1.04 adds features to your Palm's camera and voice recorder. Control them with ANY infra-red remote, use the time-lapse feature to turn your PDA into a spy camera.

These are the features I'm interested in:

    # Be IN the photo, and not behind the camera taking the pictures.

    # Take a photo sequence of flowers opening, a mountain landscape picture animation during 24 hours.

    # Create instant photo series, with 1 second delay.......

Thanks for the link and information Bust A Groove! This would be a great app for taking multiple shots.

But when I went to Handago to try out "Fun Cam" and kept getting a format error message.

Any Advice for downloading on the road?

    Thanks.

You can do this on the Treo600 with FireProducer Desktop. It's a great tool for streaming remote video surveillance on the Treo600!! Read the following thread on Home monitoring and control for more info and discussion on this topic...

The simplest solution imo is to just install Webpro on the Treo. Read the following thread for more info:

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/tc...ht=WebPro.html

A combination of Webpro + Receiveit/myWorkbench would be the ideal solution IMO. Webpro will give you the choice of where to install/save the file and apps like Recieveit allow the device to become univeral file receiver for all file types. Thus you can download and save any file types...
