pretty good data speed today - so I tested once more -

    110 kbits / second

sprint's update did in fact make for a steady day to day increase

  10. #130
I have cingular GSM..and the speed I get is always around 36kbit/sec.

Is this a problem with the technology (GSM) or the carrier (cingular)?.

Its hard to believe some technology that is so widely used (GSM) around the world compares so poorly to another one. I *don't* travel very frequently but I settled for GSM version because I want to use my phone when I do. But getting 1/3rd the data speed is very frustrating. No wonder I get buffered every 5 secs listening to 16kbps shoutcast streams...

any hope for GSM users to get better speeds in the future (better technology perhaps)...I heard there is a new version of CDMA that can work with GSM phones ... I am pretty ignorant in this field ..so if you know better ...please shed some light.

I'm not sure how much I trust this test. The first time I ran it, I had over 100 kbps. However, every time after that, even after clearing the cache, I receive 40 - 50 kbps. The best has been:

-seems a bit faster than it used to be. Maybe because of the 1.20 update...?

That runs counter to what we would assume.

No idea why this would be the case, but it's one to think on.
Okay, why is mine so bad? I've got barely one-half a bar, and my two tests were 22 kbit/sec, and 16 kbit/sec. I have Sprint - Wilmington, Massachusetts.
