Sprint T600 in Whitestone NY 5 signal bars

    DSL report results:

    79 kbit/sec
    3.099s latency
    12.796s d/l time.

    compare this to BMeter results:

    Iterations: 50
    Bytes Recevied: 204800
    Min - 156 bytes/sec
    Max - 17066 bytes/sec or 136 kbit/sec
    Avg - 3959 bytes/sec or 31 kbit/sec

Tests were done within minutes of each other.
The Dsl report and BMeter results don't correlate very well. Can anyone offer an explanation why?

All Treo600's are for all intents and purposes created equal. What differentiates one from the other is location and Carrier.

I've tested 3 Sprint T600's and all consistently give me over 80bits in strong areas where I never get dropped calls, and below 40bits in areas where I've lost reception in the past (below 20bits in areas I don't use my phone in anymore because of numerous dropped calls).

So this test seems to be a better signal indicator than the bars on the phone, which fluctuate entirely too much, even in strong areas.

Cferd, if this is an explanation to my post and questions above, please read it again.

I was in the same location and my question was on the different results I got using DSLReport vs BMeter.

I'm curious what others get with DSLReport and BMeter, another speed test program. You can get the app at http://www.hexlet.com/Products/bmeter.html

Please post results of both DSLReport and Bmeter.

Tip: To make this easier to do on your Treo, copy results one at a time to a memo then copy to your TC reply.

Yes your right. I used to have a 286 laptop with 12 hours of battery life. Slow as hell but boy did that battery last a long time.

Persoanlly I would much rather have an hour less talk time and double the data speeds.

I posted earlier on these boards before the GSM units were sold in the states that sprints network was twice as fast as GSM, and the whole collective GSM community told me I was full of crap. I guess they were wrong. :-)

My post just happened to be right after yours. It wasn't a reply to your post but to the thread in general.

    Regarding my t608/ux50 combo...

this is interesting... I was considering a t608 to use with my ux50 as a backup to the treo. I wonder where the bottleneck is here?? speeds seem comparable to gsm.
I think it may be that I am using a gsm driver, or there may be something in the settings that is off. I am hoping to get to the bottom of this today.

DSLreports always indicates lower speeds than other speed test sties for me. I get faster results from all three of the following on my GSM T600.

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/index.php (select "other" and from the drop-down select GSM or CDMA)

Just for laughs I did the Mobile Speed test with my Visorphone, which saddles onto a H/S Visor. Running an older version of blazer, and using 'access-4-free' as my isp, I get this: (On TMobile)

    **100K Download**
    98 Kbit/sec
    .18s latency
    8.314s d/l time

    **5K Download**
    2 kbit/sec

    **200K Download**
    56 Kbit/sec
    .196s latency
    28.682s d/l time

I repeated the 100K d/l 3 times, got the same result. -Should'nt there be more difference with the newer phones, or at least with the newer versions of blazer??

the proxy server on the older versions of blazer probably account for the speed.
