Anyone who hasnt checked Fingerdial for a year or so (like me!) should have a look at www.fingerclick.com . . . . it has a new stylish interface and works a treat!!! Not to mention the easy dialling functionality sorely missing from Agendus! Lets give the guy some support!

PS : I have no affiliation whatsoever to FingerDial . . .it loooks great on my Treo 600 though. A touch of class and cool as well.

I added the link to the Utility section of the software page, and will post a review shortly.

I can't tell from the site how numbers are dialed. Does it preserve the native dialpad?

It has its own dialpad for numbers not in your Contacts list . . . . . but I prefer the native dialpad on my Treo 600 . . so i use that instead. It sreal strength is its search abilities and its elegence (it just looks lovely!)

I have button 1 set up on my Treo 600 as the default Phone App (which immediately gives me my native DialPad . . . then the centre button on my 5-way set to FingerDial so I can quickly search and dial my Contacts . . . . it is MUCH faster than Contacts5 or Agendus (there is really no comparison) and it it is stylish and matches the general feel of the default DialPad IMHO.

It is 'undeveloped' in the sense that the peripheral functionality (entering new contacts, favourites, call history etc) is probably best left to the inbuilt Phone App. FingerDial wont actually find/dial Contacts any quicker than the built in Phone app either, but it looks a LOT nicer and after all, its a colour device and it doesnt seem right having to use b&w apps IMHO

PS : TakePhone is similar and in fact offers much greater functionaility and ability to search in ALL fields (including Contacts Notes) and launches SMS and Email too and allows scheduling of calls etc etc BUT I still think it looks a bit 'techy' and soul-less, IMHO and I prefer the zen-like minimalism of the pastel-coloured fingerdial graphics.

I would switch to TakePhone like a shot though if Shimon copied FingerDials graphics!!!! (unlikely!)

    soul-less ?!?!?!?

    BTW: You are right:
    - FingerDial is a worthy competitor.
    - I will not COPY FingerDial's graphics as it is - dont like the idea of copying anything...

I'll make a deal with you - send me a bitmap of how you would like the buttons to look, and I will try to add it as another skin.

Excellent Shimon! (you get 11 out of 10 for support SHimon! Agendus take note!).

I am on it already . . . . . . in fact, if this works out I promise to buy 2 copies of TakePhone!

now if only simon had a plugin contact manager, then i'd be set. IMHO, takephone does it all other than that. i spent weeks playing around with other programs until i found the perfect solution in takephone.

I've been testing TakePhone for a couple of weeks and have been very impressed.
However, one thing which I missed in TakePhone was the Initial + Surname searching which the Treo Contacts app has.

I find this search method a great improvement (which I wish other phones had) since it narrows down the search much faster. Most initial + surname searches narrow down to a few names within two characters of the surname.

Is this something which could be added to TakePhone, Shimon?

    duckznutz,

You and I have previously had a friendly debate about the issue of the delay in Agendus fully implementing 5 way nav support, so I'm wondering whether these two programs, TakePhone and FingerDial, are fully using the 5 way?

    Thanks.

Afraid you have to wait, though - this is just a draft, not yet really implemented...

TAKEphONE uses the 5way fully in all of it's main screens:
    FIND, SPEED, HISTORY, REDIAL, DIAL...

One key feature of the T600's speed dial is that when you highlight a speed dial and press the space bar, you see and can choose between all of the numbers for the person assigned to the speed dial (and not just the single programmed number). This would be a smart feature to add to TAKEphONE.

Also, when the dialogue box shows all of the numbers for that person, why not also have it offer the ability to send an SMS or an email. That way dedicated speed dial entries wouldn't be needed for SMS messages.

SPACE press feature is already implemented in TAKEphONE.

SMS at that dialog - great idea. I will look into it.
