Ok heres the deal. Finally a definitive date.

For new line activations the corporate sales arm of TMO will be releasing units as of the 29th of DEC to be delivered on the 2nd of January.

THIS IS FOR NEW LINE ACTIVATIONS ONLY!! (NO EXISTING LINE ORDERS)

My source has no news on a general release. His office has 600 TMO Treos to go through (dont know how many are spoken for as of now) but he said that he would take as many orders as we want, as it is first come first serve.

Send me a email to tmotreo@humpster.net and I will forward them to him and then he will contact you directly. I doing this as a favor to him, I dont have any further information, so direct your questions to him.

TMO has never had a problem unlocking phones for accounts that are in good standing. I have unlocked many different TMO phones.

I know you are just passing along the info, but are you secure in using the word "definitive" with anything involving t-mo and the 600?

Btw, can u find out the firmware version of the phones they got?

Again, it would be appreciated if you can find out and post here whether or not the phones are ALREADY unlocked.

Highly unlikely that any Treos coming from T-Mobile are unlocked. However, if you've waited this long for T-Mobile's version, you theoretically are looking to use it with a T-Mobile SIM, so the locking should be no problem.

Also, if you just call T-Mobile and tell them that you're going abroad and want to use a local prepaid SIM, they'll provide you with the unlock code within 5 days.

I already have a Sprint Treo 600 but might return it . Does T-Mobile usually charge for the unlock codes?

Please note that stating that "T-Mobile is going to start shipping", regardless the date, is in conflict with the purported letter sent by T-Mobile to its sales sites stating unequivocally that T-Mobile itself wouldn't be handling ANY TREO 600s - instead allowing palmOne to sell them via a link from T-Mobile's web site ONLY (none at retail outlets).

    Someone find that salt?...

HumP's info jives with what I have heard directly from a T-mobile account exec. T- mobile has a very, very limited number of phones in late Dec for distribution to new corporate accounts with the next shipment in late January. I assume, but do not know, that the phones are locked.
Enquiring minds want to know ...
