Apparently there is a treo 600 unlocking service, available from :

    http://www.unlockyourgsm.com/catalog...products_id=54

It seems expensive at $39.99, so wondering if anybody has any experience of them, and can let us all know if they are genuine.

    I found it a steal for $40.

I paid $399 for my phone and $40 to unlock it ... people are paying $600 on eBay for the same thing.

Well yes I agree in relation to the figures you quote. But here in the UK we are used to $20 to unlock a phone. Also was wondering if its genuine, and they really can do it, as $40 is a fair amount to lose if it is a scam.

I'm confused. I recall reading elsewhere that it could cost hundreds of dollars if you ask the carrer to unlock your phone. Has anybody done this with AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, etc.? And how much did they charge you?

Sorry, didn't realize it was cheaper in the UK.

It is legit though, I ordered it last night and the message returns that the phone is SIM unlocked.

I don't have a SIM card to test out if it really happened though.

I'll find out soon enough when I travel

But unlockyourgsm.com is legit, and I'll vouch for it's not-being-a-scam.

Most US carriers don't unlock phones while under contract ... I guess sometimes they will, but they don't usually.

You have the ability with this company to unlock your phone without involving your carrier.

I purchased mine from Palm with a Cingular account and my phone was already unlocked. Validated it today by inserting a TMO SIM card and it worked just fine. I had read elsewhere that purchasing from Palm the Cingular phones are unlocked.

I am waiting to buy my treo 600 for TMO. For the phones I have now, all I had to do was call them and ask to unlock, as I was travelling international - their service is too expensive to use there, I will buy a prepaid card and be in business while out of the country.

They sent me the instructions - they just needed a couple of days, no money. And if you're wondering, I do have a contract at this time.

If your phone company won't do it, that really sucks!
