Just put my 600 down on top of a paperclip. Lo and behold, when I picked it up, the paperclip came with!

Discovered that the area by the speaker has a magnet.

    Anyone know why?

Theres a warning in the manual...

"Beware of magnet: Your Treo's speaker includes a magnet, so don't store it near credit cards or other magnetically sensitive items."

It's like a fridge magnet. You can stick notes or photos on it to remind you of things.

Actually, he has a point, it is a pretty strong magnet for such a small speaker, I just tried the "paperclip test" and its strong. (Note to self, do not put Treo near RAID array in computer...)

I'm going to use mine to erase old data cartridges before I send them off to be destroyed.

I use a magnetic clip in my car to fix the phone in sort of handsfree mode. Now I understand why this is working much better with the 600 than with the 270!

You would think that they would have used a shielded magnet.
I would hate to have wacked a credit card at the wrong time and have to blame it on my phone!

    Uses for the Treo 600

You can use the stylus for picking the crud out of your fingernails

    and from your toenails

    The magnet for erasing floppies

The magnet for putting it up on the car with another magnet

The screen as a flashlight when you walk into a movie...

The screen as morse code (put palm in front of Palm) at night

The antenna as a self defense jabbing prod

The cross on the LED for praying

The keyboard to tell someone it is raining here (press lots of keys)

The small stylus inside the stylus for teeth picking

This is great! This is how I prefer to have a phone in the car and I thought the magnetic car clip has become obsolete with most new phones since the batteries no longer have iron in them. But if Treo has its own magnet, this makes it perfect for what I wanted to do. Thanks!
