I just tried to activate my T600 that I bought from Handspring on Sprint. They told me that my ESN is NOT VALID!!!!!!!!!!! I was absolutley in shock. I almost started crying right then and there. I spoke with three different people at Sprint, and all of them told me that the number was not valid. The CSR was so incredibly rude I almost had a heart attack. So I called up Handspring, and got a very nice CSR who informs me that, "Yeah, we've been getting a lot of calls from Sprint. This whole thing is a mess." She then proceeded to tell me that for whatever reason, the ESN's would not be available to Sprint for 24-48 hours!!!! This is bull****. First, they make me wait almost a MONTH for this product. Then, they ship me a product that is USELESS, and don't tell me about it. So now, I'm stuck with a very sexy looking paperweight for the next two days, and I'm still without a cellphone. I hate Sprint, I hate Handspring, or palmOne, or whatever you want to call them, and I don't know what to do. I know waiting this whole thing out is the best (and most logical) thing, but I am beyond reason and logic right now. I want vengence. And I think the first thing I'm going to do to exact my revenge is return this phone and switch carriers. If someone can talk some sense into me, feel free to do so....I need a reason to believe!

Dang! Relax. In a world where children go hungry and go to bed in a cardboard box, you're all worked up about not having a cell phone for two days. Put it in perceptive, there are soldiers worried about not being ambushed in Iraq and you cry about your cell phone not working. You should be ashamed!

Before you send it back, try going to a Sprint Store and ask for the tech. I had problems and he really helped me. You will have to be civil and nice. Tell the store tech that you were getting the run around from *2 and they generally will be able to help.

I hope it works out for you because having had this for a month ... it is just a great tool!

Let us know how it works out!

Here is what I think happend (might help you relax). When they make the phones they record all the ESN's on little pieces of paper. At the end of the day some highschool kid goes over to the assembly line and stuffs all these into his pockets. This is the end of the day so he has to go home. The next day he returns to HS and gives the little pieces of paper to another kid who then enters (proccesses orders) them into the HS system via a treo 180 (you can see how this can take a while).

What happend to your ESN I can only guess the kid washed his jeans that night, and lost your piece of paper.

    The End

relax...use the pda and camera...and wait for palm to take over the reigns...hopefully before the Treo900 is launched, so we don't all have to go thru this nonsense again.

btw sprint is ridiculous...we are dumping our account and moving over to either VZ or Cingular.

You are forgiven. I'm just having a hard time grasping just how poorly this whole process has been managed; from the backorders, to charging my credit card, and finally, to the activation of this phone.

Uh...no. Did I miss a memo or something? When did TreoCentral become the U.N. Humanitarian Forum? This guy has all the right in the world to be angry, and he happens to be in a Treo forum. Makes sense to me.

So please people, spare us the high moral discourse. Ashamed? He should be ASHAMED that his phone is not working? That's just farking hilarious in my book.

    Omega, rant on, man!

    Cheers.

the rant regarding the experience is useful data for those who take the time to read it...and of course no one is making you read it....

Well hows this for some sense... Who ya gonna switch to? The GSM phones are delayed forever ***See 4000 posts from Tmobile, Cingular, ATT users about to explode at the delays***

Be glad you got your T600, its an AWESOME phone, and well worth 48 hours more wait till they get this ESN issue resolved.

Im curious, are all the ppl that are having this ESN issue folks that got their phone directly from Handspring? Sprint has em in stock, and is shipping daily, just curious.

Hang in there man, its worth it.

    Noone likes my silly story?

Great story, probably more true than most would like to admit. One thing though, this sounds like a HANDSPRING issue, not necessarly a Sprint issue. If Handspring failed to get the ESN numbers to sprint, before they shipped the phones, its really not Sprints fault.

I agree. This definatly sounds like a Handspring issue.

Its my opinion that they have no hadle on what is going on over there. Their own people don't know what is going on. It may be a great product, but don't forget when you buy somthing from a company.. you are getting the company too. The product may be a "A" but handspring definatly gets a "D"... averaging this product at barely a "B-" probably closer to "C+".

I hear ya Omega. Waiting and waiting does not bring out the virtue of patience in me either (and I only waited 2 weeks). But owning the Treo for almost a month I will say: IT IS A GREAT PHONE AND WELL WORTH THE WAIT.

Try and learn the other aspects of the unit besides the phone; download some cool software and try and not think about it. "For this too shall pass".

I understand your frustration, but 2 days wait is not the end of the world.. hang in there and enjoy your T600... I wish I had one..
Also refrain from using swearwords... I edited the title to the f-ing out... no need for that..

My personal theory of all this is that you can get better service for a twenty dollar transaction at the corner store than you can for four hundred dollars for a new phone or fifteen hundred dollars for insurance premiums.

Handspring has lost sight of the value of a dollar, IMO, but they are not alone. The market place has to straighten them out and the Palm merger probably will do the deal. For the next phone.

Just to keep this going - I have had nothing but great service from Handspring.

Well, here's an addendum to this rant. As it turns out, my unwavering impatience paid off. Even though I was told to wait 24-48 hours to call Sprint, as that is when the Handspring rep told me Sprint would have the ESN, I called back like 2 hours later.....and lo and behold: the phone was able to be activated! Even then, Sprint told me to wait 2-4 hours to use the phone to give it time to provision and whatnot. Yeah, right. I started playing as soon as I got off the phone with Sprint Customer Service.

So, was I out of line to rant as I did? Probably. I said I was irrational in my post! (My apologies to the moderators for my inappropriate title--I thought I had edited the title enough initially, but I will be more cognizant of the rules & regulations of the forum in the future) It was the culmination of almost 4 weeks of waiting for a phone that I could have had instantly had I done what I normally do when buying new gear: go and pay $2-300 more than retail on eBay. I suppose patience is virtue I'm still working on. And while I do think this was a Handspring issue, one would think Sprint would have just a little more knowledge of the situation, seeing as the Handspring rep told me that she was getting a ton of calls from Sprint directly about this issue. How hard would it be for Sprint to broadcast this message over its network somehow to notify CSRs of this problem so they could convey the message to customers? My guess is not very. Meanwhile, the folks at Handspring were 1. Very easy to get a hold of (no waiting 20 minutes on hold), and, 2. Aware of the situation, and told me how to remedy that. So I'm less upset with Handspring, even though I had to wait and wait and wait and wait for the darn phone. Of course, this is all a moot point now, because I have my T600 and am LOVING IT!!!

I agree members should refrain from the ad hominems. However it is extremely annoying to see people acting like spoilt brats and whining about the slightest thing. This is a forum to learn more about the Treos, not to hear sob stories and tirades about how badly a single carrier treats its customers or how long someone had to wait for little strips of overpriced sticky plastic.
