Well I couldnt wait any longer.

I have been patiently waiting for this unit since June. I have an order with Handspring for the upgrade deal, but after calling around to the local Cingular corporate stores and find one at Tyson's that had the units in stock I couldnt resist. After my classes I drove on over to the store and walked out with a new Treo 600. If should be noted that I am a Cingular customer (signed up on the 9th of October when they turned on the GSM here, w/o a contract ), and that the rep told me he had been turning away those interested in the Treo if they wernt with Cingular. I am also a T-Mobile customer, and that may be of interest as well. Ill go a head and confirm one thing... the phones unlocked. Also the branding of Cingular is almost non-existant. There is on small sticker on the Treo box, and one picture on the phone of Jax (the splat guy) when you switch on Wireless Mode (pictures below). It appears for a few seconds, and is hardly noticable. Im still setting the Treo up, and its taking me a bit to figure things out as this is my first Palm device. So far I am impressed. I will play with the unit a bit more before I share my opinion of its performance. But I thought you would all like some pictures of whats in the box, and the branding. Depending on how well the Palm OS suits me, and the availibility of the upgrade program, I may return this phone at a future point in time.

I know the feeling!!! I broke down and paid $850 from doml.com last week! At least I do not have to stress about when Handspring is going to release them anymore. Is that worth a few hundred bucks? Maybe

As soon as my $399 Treo arrives, hopefully in a few days, I will be returning this one. I just needed it to tide me over for now. I will post more pictures and write more about it as I learn the device.
Not that I am the most moral person in the world but doesn't it bother you to screw cingular like that? You're creating a used phone that they cannot resell at full price because you can't wait 3 more days? Isn't that kind of abusing the good will of a company by intentionally misusing the return policy? Its no different than buying nice clothes, wearing them to a party, then returning them the next day. Maybe theft is too strong a word but you are certainly taking money out of their pocket.

I am going to go ahead and say that for Cingular to charge $625.00 for a ~$300.00 phone they are ripe for a small stretch of the abuse on the old return policy. Sorry...no sympathy for this poor multi-million dollar company.

I may possibly keep the phone. I may return it. Im not sure, and I will not be sure until I play with the phone more. Im not even sure If I will keep the one i get from Handspring. This is my first Palm device so I need to decide whether the device will integrate in to my life. In any event, if i do return the phone it will in pristine condition. As for the store that I picked it up from, it was the Cingular corporate store on Old Gallows.

And yes, a bit of Anarchy!

Im listening to streaming Digitally Imported trance right now. This is the coolest thing EVER.

Do you have an internet data plan on your T-Mobile account? I want somebody to test the GPRS speed and see if the cingularized version is any slower under T-Mobile (I know we can't yet compare it to the T-Mo600, but we can compare it to a 270 or to cingular on the 600). Also, does getmorespeed work?

I have unlimited GPRS with VPN support. I am on APN "internet3.voicestream.com" with a real IP address. The getmorespeeed web proxy does work. I have never used a 270 before, but I can say that it is the fastest I have ever seen GPRS. I can stream shoutcast w/o a problem, browsing on treo formatted sites its pretty swifty, and using the Terminal Service client is even acceptable. I will be activating pay as you go GPRS today on my Cingular SIM and will report back. Any ideas on application or a good way to test out actual bandwisth and performance?
