I remember first reading the group and hearing of people having problems with Broken lid, but I throught it would never happen to me. I was so wrong.

But thanks to reading this group Iwas imformed to know that this was a common Fault in the Treo.

I jumped on the phone with sprint, and was first told I would have to go through the insurance and pay $36.00. Then I informed them that "from reading Treo Central" this was a common problem with the phone and I should recieve a replacement.

Then I was told to either take the phone to a sprint Store.

Or I would have to pay for a new Phone, but the Money would be credit back to my Account once they recieved the Old phone.
Nobody seem to mention that later point. That sprint didn't out of good faith send you a replace phone, but billed your account for 300 till you sent them you old one.

but thank's any way guy for put all the great information out there for people who need it

I feel your pain. Had you ever dropped your treo? Did you have any warning or notice anything peculiar before it snapped?

I never really dropped it hard, or with the lid open. I did start to see a weird looking Crack that started to form on the Left hinge, then the right hinge just snap

I want to take the whole lid off, but I don't know it the sprint people would take it back after that. Has any one taken the lid off " disconnect the 2wire". Becuase I have to wait till Thursday to get to a sprint store to get another.

Also doesn't anyone know if sprint will need the handfree kit, adapter, and sync plug back when I return the Unit.

I'm right there with you. My lid broke at the hinge last weekend, after having my Treo for a year. Took it to the Sprint store, where they told me I'd have to claim it under insurance. So I did, and paid the $35 insurance claim fee, and had a new Treo in 3 days. Turned out pretty well, I thought.

I am in the same boat too. I dropped my T300 last weekend and the right part of the hinge snapped. Since it is out of warranty, I am awaiting a refurb from the ins. co. There was a $35 deductable. The replacement will arrive Tuesday, I'm told.

And yes, I took the lid right off. Having it dangle by the two wires wasn't cutting it (no pun intended). Also this is not the first time. ABout 4 mos. ago the lid broke when holding the phone to my ear with my shoulder. That was covered by Sprint (reluctantly) under warranty.

I can't wait for a T600. I am planning to upgrade after the first of the year or when Verizon starts to cary it, whichever comes first.

My Treo lid is cracked and about to break. I took it back to the Sprint store I bought it from, 1 year and 3 days after purchase. They would not do anything for me. I called Sprint (twice) and got the same story.

It there any recourse? Can I get a refurb for $35, even if it's off warrenty? (I did not purchase the insuracnce.)

Unless you get some extremely nice Sprint rep to replace it, then you're most likely out of luck. Not getting $4 insurance on a phone that expensive was probably not a good idea

I'm not sure what repair on them costs, but I'll bet it's more expensive than buying a used T300 on ebay.

AllYou have to is add the insurance "used the handsfree set for the time being" then call it in as broken "or better yet lost" then pay the deductible and wala!! New Treo.

The right hinge is a manufactor defect, they said replace it with out a warrenty.
You are justified in screwing them over. LOL

This is what I'm going to do with my phone, which has the headset connectory broken off in it. HOWEVER, the test call that gets placed after I sign up for the insurance. Does that require you to hear the call and then take an action on it? If so, does anyone know what that action is? Because my headset connector is broken off and I cannot hear the call.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

No. The headset connectory broke off in the phone, so the phone is in hands free mode continuously. I don't have the option to hear through the speaker or put it on speakerphone.
