When do you plan on offering the Handspring Treo 600? A T-mobile customer service rep told me that it would be available on Oct. 27th, but I have yet to see it on your website.

There isn't a decent business reason not to report delays.

Look at the stock market, why you do you think companies put out press releases saying they won't hit their quarterly earning predictions before the end of the quarter when they are due!! because if they didn't they would create instability in thier stock.
So then I presume you understand the difference between being required to disclose financial results, and not meeting a rumored release date.

HS has NEVER given a firm release date for the GSM version. I'm sure you'd be more angry if they took orders prior to the product's availability.

I think it has been acknowledged that the 600 would be available from HS firts, and then from TMO.

Just Got this in my inbox,
    Hope it clarifies,
    E

    Dear Customer,

I have had quite a few request for information regarding the October 27th
launch rumors. This is not true. The launch date is still the 4th week of
November. Hand Spring will launch on Monday from their website. I will
prepare the contract during the first week of November for those of you who
have patiently waited for the T-Mobile approved Treo 600.

Only the TMo branded (locked) phone will be available Nov. 27. THe unlocked unit will be available either Wed. of this week or next Monday.

Anyway, I just brought the Sprint Treo through my company, and it should be here Wed. I'm going to check out the service, etc., and if I like it I'm dropping TMo like a bad habit!!

You here that TMo??? Serves you right!

PS -- If I really like the service, all my friends and coworkers will be encouraged to switch as well.

After engaging him on some further conversation he said they (Handspring) were hoping to be able to start taking orders on Wednesday. Then someone came on the line with us (Supervisor???) and I was asked to hold. The CSR then came back on the line and said that the GSM Treo would be available either this week or next week. He provided no further specifics other than no later than next week.

Not what I wanted to hear regarding ordering today, but definetely sounds like it will be soon....very soon!
I can't tell you how unhappy I am with Handspring....

They say that they never changed any of their announced plans. That's a lie.

I heard Donna say on her conference call that Sprint was out, that carrier specific GSMs would be out "shortly" and that AFTER that, unlocked GSMs would be available "by the end of the month".

Now, maybe I am a picky guy, but it seems to me that assuming carrier specific GSMs start shipping this Wednesday, you are talking Oct 29th which is the end of the month. Since shortly was to be in advance of the middle of the month, that means they missed their mark.

Yet they sit there and say, no we didn't.

That's a lie and it really ticks me off.

There is a difference between a lie and a promise that one cannot keep due to circumstances beyond their control.

I don't believe she would have made that statement if, at the time, she thought that it was false.

Yes, this is true but... The profesional thing todo is make a public statement, or at least an item on the FAQ on the HS website.

KEEP US INFORMED, NOT IN THE DARK!

    Gulp!

Glenn, does your wife know you talk about her like that? You might want to edit the BJ reference out of your post before she finds out you've been boasting about her ample "talents" on the Internet.

I don't know what you're talking about -- my attitude and I have a perfectly mature and loving relationship. One could even call it flawless.

I stongly urge all of you considering switching to Sprint in order to get the 600 now to lock yourself in your house and have a loved one prevent you from going to the Sprint Store. Aside from the fact that you are giving up being able to use imported phones and carry different phones on a whim you are going to go to the McDonalds of cellular service. I switched to sprint when I HAD to have the i300 and for the 6 months I had the service I averaged at least three dropped calls a week. This was not limited to my home area but when I traveled around the country (Which at the time was almost all the time) also. Even though I am at the end of the line waiting for the GSM version I would rather go back to using scraps of paper and smoke signals to communicate and organize than ever use Sprint service again.

    I feel better now.

The thing that continues to puzzle me is that people are excited enough about this product to hang around on Treocentral message boards about it (if you didn't care much, you'd probably spend your time another way), and then loudly proclaim that they'll never buy one because it didn't come out on a release date that was never officially announced anyway...
It is incorrect to say that a release date was not announced.

Donna Dubinsky spoke during an investor conference call in early October after the Sprint version started shipping.

She said that carrier specific GSM handsets would be out shortly and that unlocked GSM handsets would be out by the end of the month. Meaning, therefore, that the carrier specific GSMs should have been out already, since the end of the month is here and "shortly" preceded that.

Not true not true not true.

Let's not play word games. Dubinsky stated during her first week of Oct investor call that the Sprint version was shipping, that the carrier specific GSM handsets would be out "shortly" and that unlocked GSMs would be out by "the end of the month".

The clear import of her words was that the carrier specific GSMs would be out BEFORE the end of the month and since we are already at the end of the month, it turns out that the timing that the HEAD of the company announced publicly has been missed.

Now we can play games all day long - point to the website and listen to the CSR canned speeches.

But the word came straight from the horse's mouth - the HEAD of the company - to expect sooner and that didn't happen.

The fact that people at HS keep saying that nothing has changed is what is infuriating. On the one hand, they say that early adopting repeat customers are critical to build the word of mouth to the point that they get big discounts to buy and then they basically lie to their faces, enraging them.

    Not good.

The LIE comes when you call Handspring and they start playing word games with you saying that nothing has changed regarding the timing of the release of T-Mo compatible handsets when the fact is that something DID change.

Talk to me - tell the truth - what is going on and what is the new expected date? I can live with disappointment - what frosts me to no end is lying and mealy mouthed wishy washy word game distinctions.
