Took the plunge today, but no success thus far. I've been on the phone for well over two hours now with Spring CS, but my issue is still unresolved.

    Here's the ****:

Running Business Connect Personal on my home PC, setup for "Standard IMAP Server" with access to local documents. PC Agent installs w/o issue and I can access my IMAP mail and files from an internet-connected PC -- Sprint can access it too (from their location). I can also access my documents from my Treo 600! Way cool!

But I'm unable to access my IMAP mail! :-) When I attempt to Sync, I receive the following message after a 20 second lag: "Cannot connect to desktop. Please check your desktop client and try again." I also notice that the PC Client briefly states "sending data," but nothing goes through and I get a failure.

Clearly the desktop client is working (I can access my files and all is well on the web interface. Additionally, I am receiving SMS new mail alerts on the Palm...

This is a brand new install; no old software hanging around. Anyone out have a clue? The two folks at Sprint CS have been no help...

kd_cooke - More than likely something is aborting the sync at your Desktop when the sync request get sent down to your PC which then polls the email server.

I assume you are using the BC Web interface from the browser when you asy you can access the email in this method? Here's a few questions to start and some things to check

    1. What emal server type and version are you trying to access via IMAP?

    2. Are you using a Proxy server?

    3. I assume it has never synced at al yet from the Treo 600?

One method that may shed some clues for us here is to do the following if you are comfortable with it as these steps are harmless to the software. Here they are:

    1. Bring up the Desktop Client window and click on disconnect. I'll assume the image in the dialog is green prior to disconnecting.

    2. Move your Sprint / PCS Business Connection / slingshot.log file to slingshot.old

    3. Re-start the PCS Business Connection sofware by clicking onthe Connect button.

    4. Perform your sync from the device.

    5. Cut and paste your slingshot.log file here as it should only be about 25 lines since we started fresh through these steps.

All of these steps are doing is isolating a nice clean cut log file which may show a prpblem in the log file. Hopefully this will lead us to our next steps in debugging the problem..

I have had this issue also. I deleted BC from the Treo and downloaded the Treo App again, and it fixed the issue.

MobileGhost, thanks for your assistance here...

    1. What emal server type and version are you trying to access via IMAP?

My email server is called CommuniGate Pro from Stacker Software. It acts as both an IMAP and POP server (I use IMAP). I do not know the exact version number, but it is kept up to date with software revisions.

    2. Are you using a Proxy server?

    No.

    3. I assume it has never synced at al yet from the Treo 600?

You are correct. It has never synced with the Treo.

One method that may shed some clues for us here is to do the following if you are comfortable with it as these steps are harmless to the software. Here they are:

    Intysoft,

Also took your advice and downloaded the palm software from bc.sprintpcs.com (originally got the Palm apps from the larger Windows BC intall).

Holy crap... It worked. Well, sort of...

The first time I synced (with all defaults), it worked. I viewed a couple of emails and deleted a few. However, once I synced again, it failed. And I can't get it to work again...

One note... The failure message is different. It now reads, "Cannot connect to corporate server. Please try again."

Thanks for the information. That slingshot.log file indicates the PCS Businees connection connector crashed while talking to the mail server.. the key onthis one was:

    Sun Oct 26 00:21:33 EDT 2003 (2236-1680): *** Exiting error : 0x00c0000005

Now as I understand it you reloaded the PCS Bus Conn software and at least you got one sync. Why re-installing the client worked for at least one sync does not make a lot of sense. A few more questions and steps to help unlock the mystery:

    1. When you re-installed did you re-install the PC software as well? If so did you install it over the top or in a new directory?

    2. Repeat the slingshot.log steps to capture and post the slingshot.log file? Repost this here if you would. I will be looking to see if that same exiting line is present:

    Sun Oct 26 00:21:33 EDT 2003 (2236-1680): *** Exiting error : 0x00c0000005

The commonality of bserebin's problem is he was using IMAP like you but his log was indicating a different problem.

    1. When you re-installed did you re-install the PC software as well? If so did you install it over the top or in a new directory?

No. I reinstalled the Palm client only -- the PC software agent was kept constant.

Seems there's a different problem now... A repeat of the slingshot.log file yields the following:

kd_cooke - Tks for the info... let me pass this info and consult some friends of mine who may be able to shed some light on this.
  9. #9
    kd_cooke - A couple of questions...

    1. Did you configure the IMAP connector via the PCS Business Connection Window on your PC or ...

    2. Did you configure it via the Web interface under Settings -> Services?

There is a difference between these two configurations as they are independent of each other.

    3. Via the Web interface did we establish you are not getting any emails there either?

It's possible something in your Inbox is corrupting the sync to your Treo or the Webmail interface. In this case here is a step to try if it is possible and that is to move the contents of your email to a folder.... which is easy to do via their Web interface.

    4. Send yourself one email and see if that will sync to your 600 and you can see it via the Web interface. If this works then something in your Inbox may have been causing the corruption.

I had access to a Communigate Pro server and it worked fine for me so when I configured it via #1 above but my tests were pretty basic.

    1. Did you configure the IMAP connector via the PCS Business Connection Window on your PC or ...

True -- I configured SSL access to my IMAP server via the PC BC agent.

    2. Did you configure it via the Web interface under Settings -> Services?

False -- I have not made any confugurations via the web interface.

    3. Via the Web interface did we establish you are not getting any emails there either?

False -- I *am* able to succesfully access my inbox, sent mail and trash folders via the veb interface. This functions perfectly.

It's possible something in your Inbox is corrupting the sync to your Treo or the Webmail interface. In this case here is a step to try if it is possible and that is to move the contents of your email to a folder.... which is easy to do via their Web interface.

This makes me queesy, but I will try another option tomorrow am -- I'll have my admin set up a second *test* account for me, and give that a go. For the record, I get a *lot* of mail, and my work style is to keep them in my inbox. Most of the time my inbox is between 800 - 1000 messages (I get 100 or so valid emails a day -- this is after I cut through the spam (another 150 or so/day))

    4. Send yourself one email and see if that will sync to your 600 and you can see it via the Web interface. If this works then something in your Inbox may have been causing the corruption.

As I said, the web interface works great -- I can open Outlook and the BC web client and messages appear in lock step... After I get a test account setup, I'll report back here. Do you know of any inbox size restrictions? What's the largest you've seen/tested?
  11.    #11
FOLLOWUP: Just for giggles I disabled the email setup on the PC BC agent, and enabled access to the same server via the web settings.

No dice... Same exact error, "Cannot connect to corporate server. Please try again."

I'll try again tomorrow with a test account and an empty inbox... I'll go out on a limb here and say that the Spint BC service is chocking on my somewhat large inbox (currently 850 messages).
  12. #12
    kd_cooke,

Ok... 1 difference is you are using SSL so I'll try that with Communigate.

Great idea on having a test email box setup... since you are an Inbox junkie I would not go down this path of moving emails. I am very familiar with this as my exchange Inbox has thousands but that is a different beast. I don't think there is a restriction on the Inbox sent it is only going to grab 25, 50 or 75 messages depending on your settings.

Since I'm on Exchange most of the time I've not seen this problem... I'll have to load up Communigate tomorrow and see what happens.
  13.    #13
OK, tried to get BS to function with the test account -- no luck! Here's what I did. Note, in all cases I tried both SSL and no-SSL in each configuration. Also note that in all cases I was able to access my inbox, trash and sent mail from the web interface (buut nothing, -- no sync -- from the Palm client)... For both web config and PC config, here are the steps I took:

    1. Enabled IMAP access to test account from PC BS agent
    2. Verified access to mail via web interface
    3. Soft-reset Palm
    4. Attempted a sync via the Palm client
    5. Failure -- same as before, "Cannot connect to corporate server. Please try again."

MG, I was hoping you were onto something with a currupt message or specific email in my inbox. But given that it fails with a new, empty inbox, I'm a bit at a loss.

Could it be an access issue to my IMAP server? I'm able to access it from my small LAN here at the house w/o problem, does the Sprint PC agent access the server differently than my Outlook client? In other words, I would understand if the web config failed, and the PC agent worked, but in this case, both fail the same way)

To verify that the Palm client is able to function, I also set up (via the website) POP acces to my TimeWarner RoadRunner mail. This functions without incident... I can view my un-poped messages via the web interface and sync with the Palm...

What do you suggest I try next?

    MobileGhost,

I've been having the same issue as with kd_cooke's orginal message about being unable to connect to desktop client. I've tried re-installing both client and device several times to no avail. I can connect via web interface but not through device. My office is running MS Exchange 2003. It just recently started happening as I've been on BC PE for a while now.

Below is my slingshot.log file. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

kd_cooke - This one is becoming a real challenge. Your getting blocked somehow at the device level. Now we are going to include the connector.log file. but I need to see a clean one. More Q&A and steps to do:

    1. Is there a Firewall running on your PC where you have BC installed? If so maybe try turning it off briefly. Just a potshot with this suggestion.

    2. Disconnect the BC client and backoff slingshot.log and connector.log. Re-connect against your test account with no mails in your Inbox. I'm hoping there will be something different in this version of the file versus your other ones. Look at the log files and mask out any IP's you don't want shown if needed. Upload the logs here again.

    3. I had a friend on a 270 swap to IMAP on Communigate Pro and it worked fine... he was having previous problems with POP on Communigate Pro. So we know it can communicate, like mine, via IMAP under the BC client under the desktop.

baguion - yours looks like a different environment but one with similar device symptoms. In your log there is a crash where it says:

    Tue Oct 28 16:02:37 CST 2003 (1156-2320): *** Exiting error : 0x00c0000005
    Tue Oct 28 16:02:37 CST 2003 (1156-2320): (01): 0x0077c30238 mbslen

Do you see this same exact sequence every time you device sync?

What is irritating is you say it worked for a while and then stopped? This is one of those things that makes you go HMM.

Also I don't think Exchange 2003 is supported officially but you may have to check with Sprint on that one. It ~should be compatible if MS didn't mess something up.

    Yes.

Yeah, very strange. My office had already been on Exchange 2003 when BC 6 became available from Sprint. It worked for about a week.

Will do and I'll post what they say.

    Thanks!

    MobileGhost,

    1. Is there a Firewall running on your PC where you have BC installed? If so maybe try turning it off briefly. Just a potshot with this suggestion.

Nope. No firewall, no SSL, noda...

    2. Disconnect the BC client and backoff slingshot.log and connector.log...

OK Here they are... Note that even with a completely empty inbox (test account) syncing still fails with the following message, "Cannot connect to corporate server. Please try again."

    Here is the slingshot.log file:

POP is not an option for me here. Given the volume of email I receive and my work habits, I must stick with IMAP -- BS will get dumped in favor of Snappermail before I go back to POP.

Thanks again for all you help. I await your next reply.

Has anyone using Sprint BC experienced a major slowdown in MS Outlook? Every time I try to open a new message, it takes about 30 seconds to do so, same to delete, same to "mark as unread".... previously read emails work fine.

I wouldn't think this has anything to do with Sprint BC, but thought I'd ask...

It is a problem with BC that some users experience slownin outlook. It's a real pain in the ****, if you ask me.
