I have the new Treo 600- great device.

I want the ability to dial a phone number or go to a URL entered into the text of a calendar entry. For instance, I have a calendar entry for 3 pm today. It has a phone number in it to call for a conference call. I want to be able to scroll to the number and push the center button to have it dialed. Snappermail works exactly this way now.

Anybody know of an app that can do this- maybe a cal replacement?

I think takephone has a download that performs that task. haven't tried it yet, though.

Some pretty cool features in TakePhone - this is really maturing nicely.

I would recommend making it blatantly obvious how to dial the selected number. I struggled with this when I installed it first.

Could you explain how the extension feature works - does it see anything after x as extra digits?

Like the international dialing stuff too - it can be a major pain to have to add + before every number.

What does TakePhone offer that the default phone app doesn't. I love to get new programs but what is the selling point? Curious as I couldn't get it from the info page for the software.

    Thanks for the help

I did just that and I like it.... Still playing and it could use a couple of more changes but I think I could start getting used to it. I emailed you some suggestions.

    Thanks

    Shimon,

I just tried TAKEphONE and I have some comments: (1) The Treo 600 technique for finding a name of first initial, then first few letters of the last name is a great way to zero in on a contact if you have multiple people with the same last name. It would be great if TAKEphONE could use this approach too. (2) Although one can view one's speed-dials/favorites from within TAKEphONE, the hot keys assigned to them don't work. If TAKEphONE is to be a replacement for the built-in dialer, then it would need to duplicate this feature. (3) You can't navigate the speed dial screen with the 5-way buttons after the first 10. (4) If you highlight a contact and press the center button, you get to the "tap to edit/dial" screen (I don't know what it is called), but you can't really navigate this screen with the 5-way buttons (i.e., there is no way to get to the back, open, etc. buttons at the bottom). (5) You can't navigate the menus using the 5-way guttons. (6) Even if you uncheck "Remember last search" in preferences, if you go to another screen of the program and come back to Find, your search is remembered. You have to actually go to another application to clear the find. (7) There seems to be a limit of 19 or 20 characters that one can enter as a number in the dial screen. That isn't enough for some of my calls. (8) The person who started this thread asked if there was any way to select a phone number from a text screen like the calendar and press a button to dial it, and TAKEphONE was suggested as a solution. While TAKEphONE does some many wonderful things, I can't find a way to get it to do that. Is this a feature of the program? How does one get this feature to work?
    Regards,

    Robert

    >> You can do this by tapping the "..And." button on the screen, >> or the SPACE keyboard button.

    (2) Although one can view one's speed-dials/favorites from within TAKEphONE, the hot keys assigned to them don't work. If TAKEphONE is to be a replacement for the built-in dialer, then it would need to duplicate this feature.

    >> Yes - I will implement then in the next build.

    (3) You can't navigate the speed dial screen with the 5-way buttons after the first 10.

    >> Wes - will be fixed.

    >> I preffered keeping it simple: Press Up/Down to browse the >> numbers/data, Press left to go "< Back", Press right to start >> an SMS.

    (5) You can't navigate the menus using the 5-way guttons.

    >> This is fixed in the coming version.

    (6) Even if you uncheck "Remember last search" in preferences, if you go to another screen of the program and come back to Find, your search is remembered. You have to actually go to another application to clear the find.

I'll plunk down hard cash right now if you can get the OS5 extension to read phone numbers from Business Connection and other apps that you can't highlight from.

    Hi,

I would need an example of such a s/w (not Business Connection, since I do not have a Treo 600, so cant run it) to do some testing...

Is TAKEphONE OS-5 extension a hack? I have made a point to avoid using them.

As for Takephone itself, I have enjoyed using it.

It is the OS-5 version of hacks (hacks were eliminated in OS-5).

You do not HAVE to use it, it only adds that "highlight & dial" feature...
